Avyanna POV:
I don't know what to do.
Maybe I should have stayed with Clara a little longer. That might have helped me stop panicking.
First things first what to wear.I go through my closet, and every outfit looks like I've worn it a million times. Even though my outfit is cute, it's not one I would wear to lunch. The day has gotten much colder anyway.
Going into my closet once more, I pull out a pink long-sleeved bodysuit and a white skirt. The only thing missing is accessories, so I grabbed some white tights, high white boots, a pink trench coat, a white scarf, and a pink beret.
Leaving my hair in its natural waves, I grab my pink sugar summer Fridays and head out the door. I don't need to bring a purse after the Lana del Rey box I made; I probably won't use one for a while. It's still a little early, so I stand in front of my house. The door opens, and Adonis comes out.
"Hey, sis, where are you going?" It's not normal for me to send my resting days up and about. I usually just sit inside and binge-watch Glee. "I have lunch with a friend." Adonis stops walking to his car and turns to me. "The same friend you were at the park with." Thankfully it isn't Grey. I shouldn't be spending so much time with him. My schoolwork needs all my focus. "No. A different friend."
Adonis nods. "Ok. Call me if you need anything." He gets into his car and drives off. As soon as his car drives off, a black Honda pulls up in front of the driveway. When the window rolls down Lucas' face appears in the front seat. He doesn't say anything for a few moments just stares. Did I choose the wrong outfit?
"I'm going upstairs to go change." Once I say this he shakes his head repeatedly and says, "No need to do that, you look beautiful." I look down towards my feet trying to hide the blush that is as pink as my coat.
I walk over to the other side of the car and get into the passenger seat. "I'm serious Avayanna you really do look beautiful."
"Thank you." He chuckles and starts driving onto the street. "Have you ever had Moroccan food?" I shake my head. My family never ventured off to try new cuisine. Most of the time it is hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken wings. It's never homemade either. My mom gets it from the store already made.
If we do have a homecooked meal, which is rare, it is because of the holidays. Cooking has never been a big thing in my family. There are so many foods that I would like to try but never got the chance to because of my small town.
"Have you ever had it?" There isn't much I can think of to say. "Yes. Many times. There's this small restaurant I know that is near here. The food there is amazing." Now I know where we are going for lunch.
The car comes to a stop. Lucas wasn't kidding when he said it was near. It only took us five minutes to get here. "I've never seen this place before."
"Not many people have. That's what makes it so great. It's kinda sacred."
The building is secluded from the other stores across the street. Even if it were next to the stores it would still stand out. In contrast to the tall skyscrapers, the building is short and is not wider than a school bus. There is a clear door with an open sign hanging from the top. Red curtains hang from the top covering most of the building's brown paint. It looks more like a thrift shop than a restaurant.
Lucas and I walk towards the door and he holds it open for me. "After you." He does a slight bow with a grin across his face. A giggle escapes my mouth and I curtsy. "Why thank you."
Despite how small the building looks on the outside, it is huge on the inside. Brown tables are spread throughout and fairy lights hang from the ceiling. Red cushions and wallpaper cover the walls with intricate designs. The most beautiful part is the paintings that adorn the walls. So realistic that they could have been photographs. Some of them are females while others are landscapes.
"Wow," I say.
"I know, right." Lucas grabs my hand and leads us to an open table. He wasn't wrong when he said not a lot of people come. Only seven or eight tables are filled.
I sit on the seat and Lucas is opposite me. There aren't any menus on the table, and I am about to ask Lucas when a waiter stops in front of our table. "Hey, Lucas. I haven't seen you in a while." Lucas is about to respond when the waiter turns to look at me. She smirks and says, "You must be Avyanna I've heard so much about you!" Her smile is infectious and her joy. Every word she spoke came out happy and cheerful.
The name tag on her shirt says Elena. Her red uniform, which is a shirt and polo tee contrasts with her tan skin. Jet black black hair lays on her shoulders in a long bob. Bright green eyes stare back at me.
I wave and she laughs. Next thing I know I am enclosed in arms and vanilla perfume. "Don't be shy." Lucas laughs and says, "Stop scaring her." She playfully hits him and I can't help but wonder what the relationship is between them.
"What would you guys like today." Elena pulls out a pad of paper and a pen. "Uhhh," I drone on. How do I know what there is to eat? "Do you mind if I order for you," Lucas asks. I nod yes. He must have been here so many times to know what to get. "Go ahead," I respond.
"We'll both take couscous and Avyanna what do you want to drink?" Both heads turn to me, "I'll take a Coke if you have it." Elena scribbles on the wad of paper and Lucas says, "Same for me."
Elena gives us both a smile and walks away. Lucas and I don't even get the chance to talk when a figure appears over us and says, "Hey guys how's it going?"
This cannot be happening.
