After five gruelling hours of flying, we land at New York International Airport. But my mother informs us that we are not yet at. New York. The airport is located in another city. I realized that I still have to travel by car, and my eyes, demanding sleep, remind me that the clock is now striking 3 a.m. and that it's time to go to bed.

I sigh deeply when we get off the plane and, reading the directions, go to collect our luggage. People are milling around and saying hello to loved ones, maybe friends, and here we are again with sad thoughts. Five years ago I lost my father. My mother had fallen into a severe depression , but a year ago she made an online friend . I could clearly see when my mother changed. She started to take more care of herself and me, she started to smile and laugh more often. And here are the consequences. Today, this very moment, we are in New York. I have never met him or even seen him, but I know from my mother's stories that he is a wonderful man. I hope I won't be disappointed and that I won't have to blame my mother for making me leave Santa Monica and say goodbye to my friends, and give up my beloved school on the twelfth grade ... Which is the most important .

I keep my eyes on the moving conveyor and focus on the pink suitcase approaching the van.

-Hurry up, dear. Let's not make him wait, -Mum pats me on the back.

I grab the handle of the suitcase and pull it off the conveyor . My mother and I start down the escalator . Maybe it will all work out for the best? Maybe my boring life will change and I will be happier ? We get off the escalator anyway and go to the arrivals hall. Then Mum stops and lets go of her suitcase. Well, here He is.

-Ian ! -Mum hisses scathingly and throws herself into her boyfriend arms.
They hug strongly and attract attention from others. I avert my eyes and take my headphones out of my ear.

-Norma, is this your Grace? -the man pulls back and smiles kindly at me.

-Hello -I smile, and am a little embarrassed when the man takes me in his arms. But soon he pulls back to look at me. I decide to do the same. He is tall, neat and sturdy.

-I can get to know you better, Grace ! I'm Ian, -he says, grinning widely.

-Yes, I know.

He pats our suitcases in a gentlemanly manner and my mother hugs me as the three of us walk out of the airport.

-It's great, isn't it? -Mum shrieks.

-Don't make me answer that question,-I smile at her and we pull up in front of a blue Bmw 7.

Is this man on the money? Well then, I can't wait to see the new home. I smile secretly and Lan tells us to get in the car while he puts our suitcases together. Mum gets in the front so I have to sit in the back. Maybe that's better. Half an hour later, we finally arrive in New York .

-Welcome to New York, -laughs lan.

Different lights, different buildings, people not sleeping, music still on the streets. After all, this is a city that never sleeps. I am fascinated.

-We'll reach home in a few minutes, -he adds.

I don't listen to what Mum and Ian start talking about. I don't take my eyes off the window. The tall buildings and the trees near them catch my eye, but we turn onto a winding road. We are entering a neighbourhood where there are only private houses. They all look too luxurious, so the desire to see new houses only increases.lan's car stops in front of a white stone house with a slight grey tinge.

-This is your home now, -says Ian,

unlocking the car door.
Without waiting for anything, my mother and I get out of the car.

-You see that window? -Ian comes to me and points to the second floor, to the window with the balcony on the left side

-There's your room.

Impressed again. Ian hands me the keys and mom tells me to unlock the house door quickly. Rolling my eyes, I rush to the door. I insert the keys into the slot required for unlocking and the door opens. Mom goes in first and she finds the light switch. The house lights up and I smile. I did not expect such a man to live in such a modern house. It is modern and amazing. Mom immediately rushes to check on him.

-Come on, don't bother. Make yourself at home, -Ian enters the house with our suitcases.

-Our house was three times smaller and a bit more modest, so it will be difficult to get used to it. I think I will postpone the excursion until tomorrow.

-I need to rest.

-Ian nods in understanding.

-Let's go, I'll accompany you to your room and at the same time I'll carry your suitcase, -he says, taking off his shoes.

I do the same. I follow Ian and we emerge at a large white staircase. We climb to the second floor and turn to the left.

-Next to your room is your own bathroom.

-Ah, -I gasp and Ian opens the door to my room.

He turns on the light and passes me first. This man knows how to sway me to his side. The room is all white, except for the beige carpet covering the floor. I inspect the wardrobe, which has sliding doors and mirrors.

-What? I hope you like the room and if something is missing you can do whatever you want with it.

-Good night, Grace, -he leaves his suitcase by the door and smiles.

-Good night Ian and the room is just amazing.

-I am very happy. take a rest You know you have to go to school tomorrow.

I nod and he leaves. I fall into the huge bed and immediately realize that I am really very tired. I reach over to my suitcase and pull out my pajama shorts and long t-shirt. I don't have the energy to shower at all, so I take off my clothes and put on my pajamas. I remove unnecessary pillows from the bed and turn off the light in the room. I fall into bed and close my eyes. I fall asleep thinking about what awaits me at my new school.
