Takahiro Kuroba sprinted through Shinjuku High's halls, his backpack bouncing behind him. His heart raced with every step, anxious not to disappoint Shinji.
As he turned a corner, Takahiro collided with a familiar figure. Apologetic, he bowed deeply, his eyes meeting Shinji's warm sight.
"Taka, slow down!" Shinji exclaimed, chuckling, his eyes crinkling at the corners.
Takahiro straightened, rubbing the back of his neck, a flush rising to his cheeks. "Sumimasen, Shinji! I'm so sorry."
Shinji's grin softened, his voice gentle. "You're late, Taka. Again!"
Takahiro's shoulders relaxed, relieved by Shinji's teasing tone. "Hey, it's not my fault! Traffic was crazy!"
Shinji raised an eyebrow, his lips twitching. "Save it for the teacher, Taka."
As they walked together, Takahiro noticed Shinji's new hairstyle, styled in a way that accentuated his sharp jawline.
"Hey, Shinji, what's with the new look?" Takahiro asked, curiosity in his tone.
Shinji's cheeks flushed, and he looked away, fidgeting with his sleeve, a hint of shyness in his eyes. "Just trying something new, Taka."
Takahiro's gaze lingered on Shinji's profile, sensing a subtle change.
They arrived at their classroom, a cozy room with a Tokyo skyline view. Takahiro slid into his seat, exchanging a reassuring smile with Shinji.
Throughout the day, Takahiro sensed Shinji's unease, their usual banter tinged with tension.
At lunchtime, Takahiro confronted Shinji in the school courtyard.
"Spill it, Shinji! What's going on?" Takahiro asked, his brow furrowed with concern.
Shinji hesitated, his eyes darting around the courtyard before meeting Takahiro's gaze, his pupils shaking. "Nothing, Taka. Just stressed about exams."
Takahiro's eyes narrowed, sensing more. "I'll help you study, Shinji. We'll pass those exams together!"
Shinji's face softened, his eyes shining with gratitude. "Thanks, Taka. You're always here for me."
