Karlee has ignored Edward since he told Bella about her. Now, as if it wasn't bad enough that Bella knows, Edward is bringing her over to 'meet the family'. Carlisle was allowing it despite Jasper not being comfortable around Bella's blood and Karlee, Rosalie, and Emmett being against it. Normally Emmett wouldn't care, but this is putting his daughter in a lot of danger and Edward told Bella about Karlee, upsetting all three of them.
Edward went to get Bella and Alice took Jasper out hunting while the rest of the family was in the kitchen cooking together. They were preparing Italian food for Bella and Karlee to eat. Karlee was next to Emmett chopping vegetables up for the salad they were making.
"Why are we doing this again?" Rosalie asks from where she is holding the salad bowl for Emmett, who is chopping lettuce, and Karlee.
"Yeah. Why are we?" Karlee asks
"Because Edward wants us to meet her." Carlisle says
"She's human. She shouldn't be involved." Rosalie says
"Edward loves her, Rosalie." Esme said.
"How does he love her? He barely even knows her. It seems more like they are obsessed with each other, and not in a good way." Karlee says and nobody responds. "And I'm not necessarily comfortable with her being here and neither is Jasper. He's only going along with it for Aunt Alice."
"Is she even Italian?" Rosalie asks
"Her name is Bella." Emmett says
"That doesn't mean she's Italian, Daddy. My name is of German origin and I'm not German." Karlee says
Emmett laughs. "You got a point, sweet pea."
"I'm sure she'll love it no matter what." Carlisle says
"And I'll still eat it if she doesn't." Karlee says
Rosalie says, "Get a whiff of that. Here comes the human." Esme smiles brightly.
Esme walks over to Bella and Edward as they enter the kitchen. "Bella. We're making Italiano for you and Karlee." She says with a kind maternal smile
"This is Esme, my mother for all intents and purposes." Edward introduces
"Bon giorno." Bella says to her
"Molto bene!" Esme replies with a surprised smile.
"You've given us another person to cook for." Carlisle says with a smile.
"I hope you're hungry." Esme says
"Oh, absolutely--" Bella starts to say
"She already ate." Edward says and Esme's smile falls. Bella gives Edward a disapproving look.
The bowl in Rosalie's hands shatters, making Karlee jump, not expecting it. "Perfect." She says and Emmett walks over to her.
"I just assumed...because you don't eat, so." Bella says
"Of course, It's very considerate of you." Esme says
"And stupid." Karlee says and Edward glares at her.
"Karlee." Carlisle reprimands
"What? It is. I eat like she does." Karlee says and Bella looks down with reddened cheeks.
"Just ignore Rosalie and Karlee. I do." Edward says to Bella, gaining glares from the mother daughter duo.
"Yes, let's keep pretending this isn't dangerous for all of us." Rosalie says
"I would never tell anybody anything." Bella says
"She knows that." Carlisle says
"The problem is, you two have gone public now, so..." Emmett says backing Rosalie up
