▮ October, 1999

Riwoo was not a scary type. He usually didn't bother even to turn the lights on when he arrived late from his mediocre job at the videostore.

Oh, his job. How much he hated his job!

He yawned.

Today had been particularly difficult to arrive at the end of the day for him at his job, or better say, the end of night cuz only a few hours were left till the sun rose again.

He had the bad luck of having to work on Halloween's Eve, and the worst luck of being under the regime of his hideous boss, Woonhak, a pretentious kid with the privilege to be the owner's son.

As expected of a spoiled child, he had the tremendous idea to throw a Halloween party at the videoclub just to get some attention. However, the idea of a movie night party was applauded by the rest of the lickspittle of his colleagues at the videoclub who were excited to participate. Riwoo showed no particular interest in the childish idea of a costume party but was mistaken as apathy, so he ended up with the worst, most boring job that night: the projector-bean manager.

For almost five hours he had to observe a machine hoping for it to not break, with the most horrible smell of metal heating under his nose constantly. He even had to wear a costume, a common vampire attire, even if he was enclosed in a provisional projection room they installed in the backstore and no one, not even their workmates, saw him for more than 30 minutes that night.

By the end of the night, he even had to bear to watch his work crush, Taesan all flirty and touchy with the Harley Quinn cheap copycat of Leehan believing nobody would notice them in the back of the seats. But, oh, he saw everything, much to his disgrace. That stupid skinny bitch putting his hands all over his Werewolf costume.

At that moment, he hated his life so much!

Not even his friend Sungho came to his rescue as he was also getting himself a hookup somewhere else in the store. That slut!

Everyone was having fun and making out except for him. It was simply unfair!

When the party finished, Riwoo was exhausted, drained of life completely, wishing to disappear for that week at least. Even if he didn't do anything that night, the Halloween "party" had left him on the verge of madness. He could only think of his squishy bed, and thinking of not waking up for the same sad reality of his.

He arrived home some minutes after midnight. Dragging his feet with struggle.

He made a disgusting grimace as he saw his neighbor Jaehyung walking down the hallway with a guy hugging him from behind all lovely and loud as usual of him. Riwoo searched for his keys as fast as he could but the guy noticed him :

"Ohh, Riwoo! It's nice to see you." He said politely. "We're having a party tonight i hope that doesn't bother you. It's just us and some friends only" He continued not changing his kind tone even if the older didn't respond. "You can come too if you want. We have food and wine" He pointed at the bottle he was carrying in one hand.

Sungho spilled a bitter No thanks and left the guy with his new temporary boyfriend, he guessed.

"I hate this dude," he thought to himself as their faces disappeared behind the door.

He didn't turn the lights on.

Living alone for almost two years now in his apartment, he had figured out the displacement of all his furniture and could move through his apartment almost as a phantom, dancing in the dark of the night all the way through his bed. His lovely and much-missed bed.

When he finally arrived at his bed, he threw himself on the mattress, not even bothered about undressing or removing the stupid vampire makeup they made him wear. He just wanted to sleep.
