This first chapter is designed to gauge interest for the book. I'm not sure if I want to continue it, and if I do or not will be dependent on the reception it gets. Its rather long as it was designed to showcase the general theme and plot of the book, and it was a bit hard to capture with just 1k words. Feel free to leave a comment if you're interested in seeing more chapters!

Ever since Killua and Gon separated, Killua had decided to make a change in his life. He was done being a Zoldyck, he was done being the monster. There was nothing Killua liked about himself anymore. So why not change it? Killua had thought, nearly a year and a half ago now. He changed everything about himself. His personality, his hair, his eyes, hell even his preferences and the state he lived in. It was hard to adjust to at first, but as time went on Killua felt himself really slipping into the role. Finally, he'd gotten the relatively normal life he'd wanted.

At least, that's what he kept telling himself.

"Deku? What's the matter?"

Killua snapped out of his thoughts, shooting Uraraka a soft smile. "Oh, it's nothing." He lied. His classmate gave him an encouraging smile. "I know you're pretty stressed out about your first match, but I'm sure you can beat that Shinso guy!" The sports festival was in full swing, and his first one on one match was up soon. "I'll be fine Uraraka, you dont need to worry about me." He reassured her, standing to his feet. I'm not the one you should be worried about. Killua had tried his hardest to keep his strength at bay, going so far as to take specialized medication to weaken himself and condense his muscle mass. It was only a temporary fix, but Killua could take those quirk induced pills as many times as needed.

If anyone asked, he wrote it off as anxiety medication. Nothing to be concerned about, or suspicious of. Not even Allmight noticed, thankfully. Killua was hesitant at first to accept the number one pro's quirk, but ultimately he'd accepted the offer. Sure, it was a little more ambitious than the 'normal' persona he was going for, but living the life as an average commonfolk was always going to be impossible for him. Killua just wanted to be detached from himself, and what better way to do that then become the pupil of the greatest hero in Japan?

"I should be getting ready for my match now, I'll see you later Uraraka."

Killua said softly, turning and making his way down the hallway while the rest of the competing students played some silly games. As he was walking, he sensed a presence coming up behind him, a pretty familiar one in fact. "Hey!" Allmight spoke, coming up behind him with a reassuring grin. Killua turned to face him. "Sorry I haven't said hi, you've been doing great. You've just about harnessed one for all now." Killua felt something in his chest clench. I wasn't using it during the cavalry battle though, not really. It happened very rarely, but occasionally he'd accidentally activate his Nen out of instinct when he was trying to fight with One For All. Or occasionally he'd accidentally hit with his full (albiet drug reduced) strength like what happened at the USJ, thankfully the punch was only against that Nomu. But he'd nearly injured Todoroki pretty badly in the cavalry battle this time.

"Not...really, I'm still worried about using it."

Killua said, which he supposed wasn't too much of a lie. "I imagined how it felt to hit that villain but I'm still not in control. It's so unpredictable like it could rip me apart if I'm not completely focused." One For All would probably have been easier to master if Killua trained by himself, working out the kinks and such of his newfound power. But that would be....too easy. "Really, I'm just skating by on luck." I'd excel past my classmates way too fast, that's not the point of this at all. He wanted to stay on their level, or at least as close as he could. Suddenly he felt Allmight smack him atop the head and his jaw simultaneously, causing him to let out an involuntary gasp as he bit his tongue. Less from the force, and more from the shock.
