Over the past few days, Taehyung had become unusually chatty during Jungkook's checkups, peppering him with questions and comments that often went beyond the typical patient-doctor exchange. Sometimes he'd ask harmless things about his recovery, but other times he'd veer into personal territory observing Jungkook's serious demeanor or throwing in a playful compliment. Jungkook, for his part, kept his responses professional, answering only the medical inquiries and deflecting the rest with polite indifference.
After one of these visits, Dr. Lee pulled Jungkook aside, her gaze serious. "Jungkook," she began, crossing her arms, "I know you're dedicated to your work, but I want you to be careful around Taehyung."
Jungkook looked at her, slightly puzzled. "Careful?"
"Yes," she nodded. "Taehyung has a bit of a reputation... he can be very charming, sometimes to a fault. I just don't want you to get drawn into anything that could blur your role here. It's... easy to get attached to someone like him, especially when he's being as personable as he is now."
Jungkook frowned slightly, processing her words. "Dr. Lee, I'm just here to do my job. My focus is on his recovery. That's all."
She placed a hand on his shoulder, softening her tone. "I know, and I trust you. Just remember that he's under a lot of attention, and the boundaries here are essential. Don't get any... ideas, alright? You're like a little brother to me, and I don't want to see you hurt."
Jungkook managed a small smile, understanding the indication. "Understood, Dr. Lee. I'll keep things strictly professional."
As he walked back to Taehyung's room for the next checkup, Dr. Lee's warning echoed in his mind. He resolved to keep his distance emotionally, reminding himself that Taehyung was a patient, nothing more. Still, a small part of him couldn't deny that actor's lightheartedness and unexpected curiosity had managed to make an impression-a thought he quickly brushed aside as he opened the door, focusing once more on his duties.
Throughout the check-up, Taehyung’s gaze stayed locked on Dr. Jeon, watching his every movement with an intensity that even he didn’t quite understand.
Jungkook didn’t seem to notice Taehyung’s constant stare, his attention strictly on the routine tasks, checking Taehyung’s vitals, asking questions about his pain levels, and noting his progress.
Just as jungkook wrapped up his checkup, the door opened, and Jackson Wang slipped into the room, balancing a few bags and his phone in hand. He gave Taehyung a quick nod before glancing at Jungkook.
“Dr. Jeon,” Jackson greeted with a small smile, but his eyes were clearly anxious, watching every move.
Jungkook nodded back, pulling a receipt from his clipboard. “These are the medications and injections Taehyung will need for the next few days,” he explained, handing the paper over to Jackson. “Make sure to pick them up as soon as possible.”
Jackson took the receipt, glancing over the items with a slight frown before pocketing it. “Got it. I’ll get everything.”
Turning back to Taehyung, Jungkook continued, “Dr. Lee will be here for the evening round to check on your progress. She’ll give you an update on the next steps.”
Taehyung tilted his head, a hint of curiosity lighting up his gaze. “And you?” he asked, a faint smirk forming. “Are you coming with her?”
Jungkook shook his head, maintaining his composed demeanor. “No, I’m scheduled for other things.”
“Ah, come on! What could be more important than checking up on your favorite patient?” Taehyung teased, a playful grin on his face.
Jungkook raised an eyebrow, his calm and professional demeanor unwavering. “I didn’t say you were my favorite,” he replied, keeping his tone even. “Every patient is equal.”
