Zeng and Xiu emerged from the ancient tunnel, blinking against the blinding sunlight that greeted them after what felt like days in darkness. The fresh air filled their lungs, invigorating yet heavy with the reality of the journey still ahead.

They stepped forward cautiously, Zeng still adjusting to the heightened senses that his Azure powers granted him. He could feel the energy thrumming within him, honed and sharpened by his ordeal with the ghost of the tunnel. Glancing at Xiu, he nodded, determination etched into his expression.

"This is it," Zeng murmured, scanning the surrounding forest, trying to find some sign of the Black Veil's hidden paths. "We'll follow whatever trace we can find of them."

Xiu nodded, her gaze fierce. "It's risky, but if there's a way to find Lian, we'll find it." She paused, a rare softness in her eyes as she looked at him. "And with your Azure powers at their peak, we're ready."

They ventured into the dense forest, navigating through thickets and overgrown paths. The forest felt different now, darker and colder, as if even nature knew what lay ahead. They moved quickly but cautiously, relying on Zeng's newfound abilities to sense faint traces of the Black Veil's presence—the dark aura left behind from past assassins' paths, faint imprints of hostile energy.

deep within the Black Veil's stronghold, Lian found himself back in the room he had once called both prison and workshop. The dim candlelight flickered against the worn walls, casting long shadows that seemed to reach for him. The room was as he had left it two years ago, every tool and vial exactly in place, the scent of herbs and tinctures he had once concocted still lingering.

The leader of the Black Veil entered, a figure shrouded in shadow, his gaze gleaming with a twisted delight. "Welcome home, Venom," he sneered, using the name he'd reserved for Lian, the pet name for his prized poison master. "I knew you'd return."

Lian's glare was cold, but the leader's expression held only satisfaction.

The leader moved closer, hands clasped casually behind his back. "It's time you returned to what you do best," he said, gesturing to the shelves. "Our enemies have gotten comfortable. They've forgotten what it feels like to suffer. But you—" He leaned in. "You could remind them."

Lian's fists clenched, his eyes never leaving the leader's. "No. I refuse to make poison for you again."

The leader's smile only widened, as if he had anticipated Lian's defiance. "Refuse, and I'll simply... motivate you." He didn't raise a hand; instead, his words sliced into Lian with insidious precision. "Remember the Azure clan, Venom? Their cries, their agony... those deaths are on you."

Lian's jaw tightened, every fiber of his being resisting the leader's manipulations. Memories he had buried flooded back: the night his poisons had taken the lives of the Azure remnants, his tools twisted to end lives he never wanted to harm. Yet he forced his gaze to remain steady.

"They died because of you, but do you know who will be next? Your friend, the Azure who escaped. Young Zeng—if he arrives, he will suffer worse than you."

At the name, Lian's resolve weakened for a split second, and the leader seized on it. His tone turned mocking. "Do you know what will happen when he arrives? He'll be broken before he even realizes the trap he's walked into. All that strength, all that potential—wasted. You will watch him suffer, just as the Azure you killed suffered."

Lian clenched his fists, blood roaring in his ears, but his mind struggled against the leader's manipulative words. His hatred for the Black Veil had hardened him over the years, but the weight of Zeng's possible suffering pressed on him with renewed force. And his only solace came from knowing Zeng had grown strong, that the Zeng he knew was fierce and unyielding.

The leader seemed to sense his resistance and leaned closer, his voice barely a whisper. "If you care about him, you'll obey. The longer you refuse, the closer he'll come to his own death."

Swallowing his anger, Lian felt his options narrowing. Despite every fiber of his being screaming to resist, he understood the dangerous position he was in. For now, he would have to play along, to wait for the right moment to strike back.

In the depths of the forest, Zeng and Xiu finally emerged on a cliffside, catching sight of a shadowed fortress nestled deep within a valley. The stronghold of the Black Veil stood ominously before them, foreboding yet strangely inviting, as if daring them to enter.

Zeng's eyes blazed with determination, his powers surging as he took in the fortress's daunting figure. He would save Lian, no matter the cost. And in the silent vow he made there on the cliff, he found strength he hadn't realized he possessed.
