Scene: around early march at evening
Sofia took a deep breath as she pushed open the door to her new dorm room at Fatty Heights High. She was a little nervous but excited—this was her choice, after all. She glanced around and saw her two new roommates unpacking their things.

Sofia: “Hey! I’m Sofia. Looks like we’re going to be sharing this place!”

The girl closest to the door looked up with a bright smile. She had soft curls, rosy cheeks, and a contagious energy.

Emily: “Hi, Sofia! I’m Emily! And that’s Alex over there!” She gestured to the other girl, who gave Sofia a wave from her bed.

Alex: “Hey there. Nice to meet you.” She grinned and went back to setting up her pillows.

Sofia took a seat on her bed, watching her new roommates curiously. She could tell they both had a little extra weight, but they seemed completely comfortable in their own skin. That relaxed her a bit.

Sofia: “So…have you two been here long?”

Emily: “Just got in this morning! I was a little surprised by the ‘welcome cookies’ in the lobby.” She laughed. “They were like, ‘Eat up! You’re gonna need the calories here!’”

Alex: “Yep, welcome to Fatty Heights.” She gave a lazy smile. “Where snack time is practically mandatory.”

Sofia grinned, feeling her excitement grow.

Sofia: “That’s actually one of the reasons I’m here! I’m really looking forward to… you know, enjoying myself.”

Emily: “Same here! I mean, who wouldn’t want to live in a place that has an eating contest every year?”

Sofia: “Wait, really? An eating contest?”

Alex: “Oh yeah.” She nodded. “There’s an eating contest, a cooking contest, a food stall festival… basically, this school finds every excuse to have us eat.”

Emily: “It’s kind of awesome, honestly. You’ll see some people get really into it, especially around festival time. The food stalls are like paradise!”

Sofia: “This just sounds better and better!” She laughed. “Have you guys always wanted to come here?”

Alex: “I’m actually just here for the experience, you know?” She shrugged. “I heard it’s a great way to learn about… well, food and how to enjoy it without all the usual judgment.”

Emily: “I was always the ‘big girl’ in my last school, so I thought, why not come to a place where that’s celebrated? Plus, my family owns a bakery, so I’m always around food. It just made sense.”

Sofia: “That’s so cool! So, are you going to enter the cooking contest?”

Emily: “Oh, absolutely! I’m bringing my A-game. I’ll probably make my family’s famous triple-chocolate cake.” She practically sparkled with excitement.

Alex: “I’ll be there as your taste tester!”

Sofia laughed, already feeling at home with these two. She could tell this year was going to be something special.

Emily: “So what about you, Sofia? What’s your plan?”

Sofia: “Well, I guess… just to try everything, you know? I want to enjoy every bit of it. And honestly, I’m kind of curious to see where this all goes.”

Alex: “Then you’re in the right place.” She leaned back, a thoughtful look in her eyes. “The school even tracks our weight and BMI. It’s like, the only place where that’s a good thing.”

Emily: “They do it at the start and end of every year! It’s supposed to show our ‘progress.’ It’s kind of weird, but… fun in a way?”

Sofia: “Honestly, I think that’s pretty cool. It’s like having a goal and just… going for it!”

The three of them exchanged smiles, a quiet understanding settling among them.

Alex: “Here’s to a great year, then. With plenty of food, friends, and… let’s say, ‘progress.’”

Emily: “Cheers to that!”

As they laughed and chatted into the night, Sofia felt like she’d truly found the right place, with the right people by her side.
