Chapter 1 - Ella POV

Junior Year is far more simpler than what I used to think as a sophomore. Unlike in movies, where they portray high school as some sort of adventure, filled with drama involving mean girls and dumb jocks, its way more peaceful and I kind of like this peace.

You still have desperate teenagers trying their best to land into relationships , couples, guys tagging themselves as 'bad boys', it's still not that bad.

I am someone who manages to fit in. There is nothing more than I want in this world to get into Harvard's pre med program and I am working diligently to get in, from writing extra assignments, taking AP Classes and joining various clubs to fulfill my extracurriculars.

I have a few friends, my best friend being Rowan. We had met when I was in freshman year while he was a sophomore. We started talking and the next moment, all I knew was that he is my best friend. He has always been there for me.

Unlike me, Rowan was part of the popular circle but he was hesitant to introduce me to his friends, said that he would rather not have them talk to me and I found it wise enough to not ask him the reason.

I have a crush on Rowan's best friend Lucian, cliche i know, but i just can't help it.

Lucian was like your average school playboy with girls fawning over him, he was a player but still managed to get a new girl every month. I was still hopelessly in love with him. 

I knew he was bad, very bad but that didn't stop me from crushing on him. I had fallen for his bad boy appeal, but I knew that I would always admire him from afar. He didn't like girls like me, girls who liked studying and moreover he was a total douche and yet I couldn't help but like him.

Today was just another ordinary day

"Hey Ells, come let's go and have lunch." That was enough to wake me up from my daydream.

I followed Adrian to the cafeteria where we sat at our normal place with Diana.

Adrian and Diana were also my best friends and Rowan didn't mind me talking to them. He was seated in his usual place with his group that consisted of Lucian and Ryder. Lucian as usual had Hanna, his current girlfriend sitting next to him.

Adrian and Dia knew that I had a crush on him and though I knew that he was a douche who played girls, it still made me upset to see him with her. I had hopelessly fallen in love with his charms.

"Stop staring at that asshole Ells, you know that he is not worth any of your time".

"I know Dia, i am trying my best to get over it, it's not like i am going to talk to him"

"Yeah you shouldn't, a guy like him is a walking red flag, besides he looks like a rat".

While me and Dia were busy arguing about how I should stop crushing on Lucian, Rowan appeared at our table all of a sudden and to my surprise he had overheard our conversation.

"Ells we need to talk" he said in a serious tone, his voice became low and hoarse, I knew he was deeply upset. Dia and Adrian gave me that look after seeing him appear out of thin air.

He yanked me from my seat and guided me out of the cafeteria towards the fields.

"What is all this about? You are crushing on Lucian? And don't try lying to me, I heard Dia saying it with my own ears that you like him for a few months now, i can't believe you would hide it from me Ells" he said with so much hurt I didn't expect him to have.

" Well what could I have done Rowan, it felt selfish to tell you that I like your best friend, it made me feel guilty, I am so sorry, I thought I could keep it to myself".

" You know how Luc is right?, though he is loyal to his brothers, he is definitely not loyal to his girls, do you even know how many girls he has dated? You are too naive and innocent for him, Ells".

" I know that Rowan but that doesn't change the fact that I like him, I hated him too, the girls of my class would tell me about his playboy tendencies, but the day I saw him walking in the corridors so confidently i had fallen for him, but it's not like i will do something about it. I am never going to talk to him" I said breathlessly.

"Well I can change that then" said Rowan with a smirk on his face.

" What do you mean?" I asked with a tensed expression.

" Clearly you are head over heels for him and I think you deserve to have a shot, and being his best friend and your best friend I think I can help you".

" What are you trying to say, you want me to go talk to him?"

" No stupid, what i am saying is that I am going to set you up with him, I will tell him all about you and make him believe that you are perfect for him".

" Wait, you would do that? But doesn't he have a girlfriend?".

" You know him Ells, I don't think he really believes in relationships but you should at least talk to him and know the kind of person he is, maybe then you will get over it".

" You sure about this Rowan, it feels like I am doing something wrong".

" Don't over think this Ells", he says nonchalantly, "Just have a little fun and realize who he really is behind that bad boy facade".

I contemplated for some time. I would just talk to Luc and crush on him a little bit till I realize that he is nothing but a shallow bastard who plays girls for fun and then my crush on him would wear off. Maybe this could help me get over him.

" Alright, so what do we do Rowan".

" Don't worry about it Ells, just come to school tomorrow and leave it to me to do the talking".

" Thank you so much for doing this Ro, I love you so much". I said, giving him a tight hug.

"That's what friends are for Ells, now let's go inside, I have Math after lunch".

And with that today became the happiest day of my sophomore year.

But little did Ells know about what was to come and that this one incident would change all of their lives and put their friendships to the test.
