After a long day trapped in a stuffy office, staring at spreadsheets and answering endless emails, you had been looking forward to a cozy night in with your boyfriend, Hoseok, and your best friend, Nali. You envisioned curling up on the couch, surrounded by warm blankets, indulging in takeout, and laughing until your sides hurt over the silliest things. It was supposed to be the perfect way to unwind, a sweet escape from the pressures of work.
But as you drove through the quiet streets of Busan, the excitement that had filled you began to fade.
Pulling into the driveway, you felt a surge of anticipation mixed with the fatigue of your long day. The glow of the living room light spilled out into the night, and you smiled to yourself, ready to kick back and enjoy the evening.
But as you stepped through the door and heard their laughter echoing from the living room, that knot of unease twisted in your stomach.
"Hoseok?" you called out, your voice barely above a whisper, yet it heavily cut through the atmosphere. They both turned to look at you, their expressions morphing from surprise to guilt in an instant, as if you had just interrupted them.
"Y/n!" Nali exclaimed, her voice a mixture of shock and something else
something you couldn't quite put your finger on. "We didn't know you were home.""What's going on?" you demanded, stepping into the living room. The sight of them together hit you hard.Hoseok was lounging on the couch, his arm casually draped around Nali's shoulders, their heads bent together as they shared a private joke. It felt intimate and wrong.
Hoseok's carefree demeanor crumbled as he shot Nali a desperate glance, and in that moment, you knew. Your heart raced, and each beat felt heavier than the last. "Are you two together?" The words slipped out before you could stop them, a combination of disbelief and rising anger.
"What? No! Y/n, it's not what it looks like!" Hoseok jumped to his feet, his panic evident. He ran a hand through his hair, a familiar nervous gesture that made your heart ache even more.
You felt a bitter laugh escape your lips, laced with disbelief. "Not what it looks like? Because it sure looks like my boyfriend and my best friend are getting cozy without me!"
Nali shifted uncomfortably on the couch, her eyes darting to Hoseok, but nothing came out of her mouth. The silence hung heavy between you, suffocating. Anger surged through you, hot and undeniable. "How long has this been going on?"
"It's not like that," Hoseok pleaded, desperation seeping into his voice. "You have to believe me."
"Believe you?" You felt the tears threatening to spill, but you fought them back, your heart racing. "How can I believe anything you say right now? I thought you were my best friend, Nali! I thought you cared about me, Hoseok!"
"Y/n, please," Hoseok's voice softened, but it felt hollow. "I never wanted to hurt you."
"Clearly!" You spat, the hurt and betrayal spilling out of you like a flood. "You both are just... unbelievable!"
With a swift movement, you turned and rushed to your room, slamming the door behind you. You pressed your back against it, your breath coming in shaky gasps. The tears you had been holding back finally fell, hot and furious, streaking down your cheeks. The anger that had ignited inside you burned brightly, but it was soon overshadowed by a deep sense of loss.
How could they do this to me? You thought, feeling your heart shatter into a million pieces. You collapsed onto your bed, trying to make sense of the emotions swirling within you. The laughter that had once filled the room now echoed mockingly in your ears.
Desperate for a distraction, you pulled out your phone, scrolling through your contacts until you found your mom's name. You needed someone to talk to, someone who could make sense of this chaos. As you hit call, you felt a mixture of anxiety and hope.
