The Night Drive

The Night Drive (short story)

                                                    

As I slowly open my eyes i see the celling blurry, i look around the room and noticed that I'm on a hospital bed. I suddenly hear the vital sign monitor beeping, why am i at the hospital i say to myself. I try to move but all my limbs began to hurt like if my body was a huge bruise. As i was about to sit up, a male nurse walks in wearing royal blue scrubs with a badge that reads in dark black letters "Derek, RN". 

Good Morning, I'm Derek and I'll be your nurse for today. How are you feeling today? Says the nurse. i look at the nurse confused and say "all my whole body hurts, why am i at the hospital? The nurse looks at with the most sympathetic facial expression and says" you were in a car accident with someone else 4 months ago but you ended up in a coma and finally woke up from it today. Don't you remember anything that happened that night?" Asks the nurse.  I slowly shake my head side to side. The nurse gets concerned and begins checking my vital signs and my wounds.

After he was done he explains to me that the doctor ordered a few blood labs and pain medication since i broke my left leg and a few ribs. No wonder my body feels sore i thought to myself. After nurse Derek was done Administering the pain medication through my IV line, he told me that If anything for me to press on the call button for assistance. I nodded and thank him for helping me. As the nurse leaves a few minutes passes by and a girl comes in to draw blood on me, once she was done she leaves the room closing the door leaving me by myself.

I kept trying to remember what happened but for some reason I can't seem to remember anything. After a while of thinking I didn't notice the door opening. As I snapped back to reality i see my parents coming in, my mom is holding a bouquet of flowers and my father is holding a brown teddy bear with 2 balloons that says in colorful letters "GET WELL SOON". As i look at them i smile brightly giving them the warmest smile ever . My mom immediately runs to hug me tightly almost dropping the flowers on the floor, i began crying i was so close on not being able to see my parents ever again. My father placed the teddy bear and balloons on a near by chair and hugged me as well not wanting to let go of me.

As we separated from the hug, my mom sat next to me while my dad sat on another chair near my bed. "Honey about your car, don't you worry we can get you a new one" says my mom smiling.  My dad looks at me and says "what happened that night?" I stayed silent since I don't remember until i turn my head to look out the window and see a couple fighting outside the hospital. Everything comes back.

4 months ago flashback ( Before the Car Accident)

"I can't believe you would cheat on me with my best friend" i say to my boyfriend Ivan of 4 years. "Kendall it didn't mean anything between savanna and I, you know i love you." Ivan says while we both get inside my car to drive back home. It was a Saturday night and it began to rain heavy. "Ivan you slept with savanna behind my back, i had to find out by other people in the party". I say upset. " i know i fucked up okay but i swear to you it was only one time"says Ivan begging for my forgiveness. Thinking of their betrayal and how they did me wrong got me so pissed off that i began to drive fast, even though i knew how dangerous it was since it was raining heavy but at that moment i did not care. Kendall noticed that Ivan got a message from savanna, her faced turned red and hot from how Annoyed she is.

As i was driving fast in the heavy rain I suddenly lost control of the wheel making the car flip over causing the car to roll out the highway. I remember being upside down my car, my head pounding hard, blood dripping from my head, loud ear ringing. I look at Ivan bleeding from his face still attached to his seat belt. There was broken glass everywhere, due to the rain the car was getting full of cold water.everything inside the car was destroyed by the crash. I couldn't move or scream, my body felt like if it was in shocked. After an hour a truck driver saw us and called emergency services. It took about another hour until EMT arrived. All i remember is seeing a bright light hitting our faces, and a man yelling "there here bring the gurney" Then suddenly my vision became dark and pass out.

I woke up but it didn't seem real it felt like if i was in a dream, i was standing in the middle of a hallway. Looks like a hospital. As i continue to walk i see nurses running to a patient room." CODE BLUE" yells one of the nurses at the nurse station. I suddenly feel the urge to find out who's coding, so i decided to check it out. As i walk inside the  room i see a nurse doing CPR on Ivan and another nurse doing breathes. They began to recharge his heart but it was too late. Ivan was gone forever. As i was about to walk away i see savanna running inside the room crying on Ivan lifeless body screaming "No, Ivan you can't leave us"touching her belly.

I look at savanna in shocked, i can't believe she's pregnant. As i was about to punch her i suddenly felt like something was pulling me away into a bright white light, until i woke up in a room confused, where am i? I say to myself.
