'no, i don't want your sympathy'zia had noticed her sisters sudden change of behavior. just half an hour ago she was talking and laughing, actually looking like she was having a good time, but the past 30 minutes she had stared blankly at the wall, looking like there was nothing in her head but air.
zaria felt as if this was exactly the case. her head hurt, not completely sure if it was because of the drink she had just chugged the remainings off or because of all the noise around her. at least the couch was comfotable.
the others had gotten bored of the games and spread around the house a little while ago, not that zaria was complaining.
next to her sat two other girls. she wasn't competely sure when they got there, but she thought they sat way to close to her. "she's so fine tho" one of them said a bit too loud and as much as zaria wanted to mind her own business, her curiosity got the best of her.
it was harder to hear what the other girl said when she had her back faced against zaria, but she was sure she heard her say something about this 'she' being crazy. "what do you mean crazy? she just knows what she wants" the other argued again.
quickly zaria shot a look their way to capture a glance of their appearance. the one that had her back faced zaria was dark blonde and had waves. the other girl talking had tan skin and dark brown hair.
"you've seen her play, she can throw you across the room if she wants to!"
it didn't take more for zaria to understand who they were talking about.
lynn.
no matter where she went, she couldn't escape the mention of the athlete. she was like an annoying itch that she wasn't able to reach.
"yeah, and she'd look fine doing it to" zaria's eyes made a rolling motion. it bothered how many girls fawned over her.
the younger laney walked over to her, forcing her to stop listening.
"come on, let's go home" she said, holding a hand out to help her up. zaria stood up quickly, her vision disappearing for a second.
when they were halfway, zaria still hadn't said a word, something that was unusual as she would talk until sisters head exploded when they were together.
zia wasn't stupid. she knew exactly what was up.
"it's fine, lynn is chill" she tried comforting, but it triggered something in zaria. "no, she's not! she's annoying" judged by her half slurred words and unfocused gaze, zia knew it was whatever liquid she had consumed speaking.
it didn't take a lot to get zaria tipsy. she was a lightweight you could say.
the biggest issue about hating lynn was that there was no one around her that thought the same. sure- there was other at school who didn't like her, but of course all her friends didn't mind her.
instead she had to feel her hatred grow stronger every time she stepped into class or she saw her at practice.
the second she put her head on the pillow when she got home, she was knocked asleep. that was before she woke up 2 hours later with a raging headache, keeping her awake for the rest of the night.
"zaria, you gotta get ready, we're leaving for zia's game in 15 minutes" her mom stuck her head in the door, waking zaria up from her half asleep state- in probably the nicest way zaria had heard in a while.
throwing on a hoodie and some jean shorts was enough getting ready for her. not even 10 minutes into the carride she could feel her eyes getting heavier and started struggeling to keep herself awake.
she quickly reached for her phone in her back pocket and opened the camera. luckily she didn't look as bad as she felt.
she swiped to the left, only to see nick had left her on delivered for 23 hours. 'he's probably just busy' she told herself, but she wasn't sure if she believed it.
this thought spun in her head for at least 30 minutes until the team started playing.
the jealousy was dripping from her as she watched zia run across the court. she would've switched soccer with basket in an instant if she could.
last year she did both soccer and basketball, even if she was put on the bench during every match they had- it was still a lot better than soccer.
controlling her hands was something she was able to do, which made basketball fairly easy. her feet however, she wasn't to great at.
a familiar blonde had started walking towards her, breaking her gaze away from the court.
nick sent a small smile before the redhead that had told zaria that kissing a girl didn't count grab his arm, pulling him aside.
the black haired girl glanced confused at the scene before turning her attention back to the game.
"what the hell, man?" nick eyed the other guy who had just let go of his arm. "are you still with zaria?" he ignored him.
"why wouldn't i be?" nick's brows furrowed in confusion as he tilted his head at the absurd question. "you haven't heard?"
"heard what?"
"zaria kissed lynn" nick was about to burst into laughter. it sounded like a bad joke. "loud?" the redhead looked at him confused for a second. "yes, lynn loud!"
"i think you've got your shit mixed up dude" his facial expression told he didn't believe a word of what was being said, his words was only confirming it. "no, i know what i saw" nick was about to say something, but closed his mouth before it came out.
"on a scale of 1 to 10, how sure are you?" the redhead didn't hesitate. "a million!"
nick poked his cheek with his tongue, turning his eyes to the ground.
zaria saw him turn around, giving her a glare that made a lump form in her throat.
she stared at his back as he exited the building, not sure if she should follow him or not.
the lump in her throat grew bigger and she felt as if she was being suffocated as the weekend went on.
on sunday she woke up to see she was no longer on delivered, but had now been left on opened.
once again, she tried comforting herself by saying 'maybe her forgot to reply', but who was she really fooling?
