The Moonshades were one of the richest pack in the world of werewolves and soon, Artemis was also working in a huge company. She was a calculative and business-like woman of 20 during most of her time, her goal to reach the highest position in the company and an intelligent and vicious werewolf during full moons.
It was a Blue Moon night, something rare and auspicious for werewolves. The Alpha male of the Moonshades announced a hunting party during the night for a feast. Each werewolf in the pack had their own role to play in the hunt and Artemis received what she thought was the most boring of them all: the guard.
She had to make sure there is no other werewolf in the forest. Just that.
Artemis had gritted her teeth and, after gathering all her calm, had asked if she could be a part in the hunt. A proper part. But the Alpha just smiled and ruffled her hair.
"Oh, you are a part of the hunt. You don't know how much important is the work of a guard. And you better do the job well. I want no interruptions in the hunt. Absolutely none,"
the Alpha said to her. When all the other werewolves were planning how to lead a huge moose into there trap, Artemis and another male werewolf of her age who was also a guard, Arche, was shunned out.
"Aren't you angry that you are not a part of the hunt?" she asked Arche.
Arche looked at her as if confused. "We are a part of the hunt. What do you mean?"
"No no, I mean a real part. Like hunting the moose. That's not our job, is it?" Artemis sighed. "We just have to roam around the jungle, looking out for other werewolves."
Arche didn't say anything but lifted his sleeve, revealing an arm criss-crossed with scars of scratch marks.
"Trust me, the guarding job is a serious thing. Rogue werewolves are more dangerous than you think. I've done this job before too," he said in a low voice, "And those barbarians have a lot to take as well as to give."
