A sense of dread clung to Leona like a bad omen after her meeting with Dante. She was trapped, a caged bird, every one of her movements watched by unseen eyes. The mark upon her wrist tingled whenever she thought of Alistair, a reminder that their bond was very much more than symbolic but a living, breathing connection that tied her fate to his.

More than ever, she was aware of the changes in the clinic: the new personnel undoubtedly did their jobs with efficiency, but there was something decidedly unnerving about their silence, furtive glances in her direction when they must have thought she wasn't looking. She half suspected them to be Alistair's spies, charged to report on her.

She worked, taking care of her patients and running the clinic, but her mind strayed back to Dante's warning and the dangerous possibilities he'd implied. Just how far was Alistair willing to go to control her?

As she closed the clinic that night, her wrist burned with an intensity that would not be pacified. She winced, clutching it tightly, but the pain would not subside. It was as if Alistair was calling to her, summoning her.

A knock on the door broke her from her thoughts. Turning, heart pounding, she found herself staring into the cold, calculating eyes of Alistair himself.

"Miss Leona," he said, crossing into the clinic as if he hadn't required an invitation. "We need to talk."

She swallowed hard, her breathing evening out. "About what?"

He lifted an eyebrow, his lips tugging up in the faintest smile. "I think you know. The bond you accepted, it's a serious commitment. And I expect loyalty, especially at times like these.

Leona's heart was racing. She tried to mask her fear, to project a calm she didn't feel. "I... I understand."

Alistair's gaze sharpened, his expression hardening. "Good. Because if there's one thing I don't tolerate, it's betrayal."

The warning hung heavy in the air, but Leona knew that Alistair wasn't speaking generally; he had been watching her all the time, testing her loyalty. The burning sensation in her wrist ebbed, but her sense of dread deepened.
