"Katie come onnn we're gunna be late! The Uber is parked outside!" Jenny called out to me, as I unplugged my silver hair straightener from the wall. I puckered my lips and swiped my gloss over them, giving my lips a pretty shimmering look. It's been a while since I've dressed up to go anywhere. Usually a Friday night consists of Jenny and I hanging on the board walk and the beach with our group of friends. "I'm coming! Let me Pee quick! I'll meet you at the front door!" I yelled out, ensuring her I'd be out soon.
Tonight I let her talk me into going to the bar, a last hoorah before the fall semester starts on Monday morning. In truth, I'm nervous to start. I transferred to USF after finishing last semester in Virginia in May. I dont know anyone, except for Jenny and our little group of friends. I internally thank the lord above every day I found her ad on Craigslist looking for a roommate a few months ago; and that she isn't a serial Killer. She's been a god send, hooking me up with shifts at the Diner and introducing me to all of her friends. I truly feel like one of the gang. It felt like a breath of fresh air after traveling all that way with no plan in site. After that last fight with Dan I knew it was time to go. I left with the clothes on my back, two suitcases of some clothes and personal belongings, and my savings and that was that. I ditched my old phone, and social media accounts. I don't think he has any idea where I left to. I have no family to keep in touch with there thankfully that cuts that lead off. At least I'm hoping so, I'm not sure what I'd do if he ever found me. Every thing seemed to align perfectly for me here. I new life was ahead of me.
I quickly Dismissed my thoughts about my old life to save myself from the anxiety of the situation. Whenever I thought about Dan it was never for good reason. I washed my hands and puffed my hair once more in the mirror making sure my look was set. I scurried down to the car meeting Jenny.
After about a forty minute ride, we arrived at ocean side club around ten, the place was swarming with people, multiple different lines were cluttering the entrance. We got out of the car, Jenny then pointed to the end of the line closest to us and grabbed my arm dragging me as she B-lined through the parking lot to secure us a spot.
She took a good look at my outfit eyeing me up and down, "Ow ow Mamacita! You're lookin spicy tonight!" She then whistled loud enough for others to hear, I saw the people next to us look over. I gave her a shy smile. She was always gassing me up.
"You always look so good in everything you wear!
"Thanks! But I only have about 20 outfits to my name right now!" I laughed, yelling over the club music that was drowning out the noise the closer we moved to the front of the line.
"Girly it doesn't matter what you wear you know everyone's looking at you! But I've never seen you this dressed up!" She yelled moving closer to me.
The truth is, I've felt like Jenny was the hotter looking of us two. She's a 5'2 Latina women with dark brown hair down to butt and a petite frame, men oozed over her. We're complete opposites I'm a 5'9 blonde, I guess some would consider me "slim thick" for my size and frame. We were polar opposites. Not just looks wise, personality wise she was the more outgoing friend while I was reserved and shy. Our sense of style was different as well. Tonight while I shoes a black leather mini skirt with a black tube top and black heels she chose a pair of brown cow girl boots with a denim skirt and red tank top. She likes to party, I like to stay in and cook. Polar opposites, but we seem to click perfectly and always have a good time with each other.
I didn't recognize anyone from around town until we got to the front of the line. Jenny and I wait on the security guard Benny at the diner often. He's our age. Sweet man, I had hoped those two would brew something but it hasn't Happened, yet at least.
He gives us a teethy smile, "Ladies! Fancy meeting you here! what can I do for you both tonight?!" He calls out as he lightly claps his hands together. So friendly as usual. he could make friends with the wall next to him if he wanted to. He looks different in his tight black shirt and ear piece, usually it's a loose flannel with a T shirt tucked into a casual pair of
Jeans.
"Benito! It's so good to see you can you let us in!?" Jenny gives him a hug and a soft meaningless kiss on the cheek it appeared he welcomed. Sometimes I think she knows what she's doing what she plants those kisses on men. I wish he would just give her his number. She deserves a good guy like him. Plus, they'd make a cute couple.
The club music raved in my ears, I saw strobe lights beam through the air and hit the ground every time the double doors to the club were opened. I heard Chris brown being played in the background.
"Not unless you have proper identification I can't, you know the rules Jen."
I could tell he was trying to be strict with her, knowing she wasn't twenty one yet. I pulled out my ID, I just turned twenty one in June before I left Virginia, I guess this would be my first night out since. I wasn't much of a partier before I left, the stress of dealing with Dan and his drinking ruined the idea of it being fun for me.
Jenny moved closer to Benny, batting her eye lashes, strategically placing her hand on his bicep. Her exposed cleavage bulging through the top of her red tank top certainly got his attention as she pulled his head closer to hers to whisper a secret in his ear. I couldn't tell what she said but it must've been juicy. She knew what game she was playing. I admired her for her ability to control men with her body. I would never have the confidence. He picked his head up, opening the gold lack on the black rope, ushering us through the gate giving us two wrist bands that say "twenty one" on them.
"Alright ladies you have a good night and stay safe, if there's anything you need let me know! I'll see you later Jenny" he winked at her. "See ya later Kait."
"By Benny" we said in synchrony.
After we got through the gate and inside the club I asked her what she said to him, she told me she promised him free meals for the next week if he let us in. I high fived her, thanking her for taking the loss. We both looked around the club, she grabbed my arm once again almost knocking me off my six inch club heels. Well they were hers really, I borrowed them. She drug me over to the bar where we ordered two vodka cranberries and two lemons drop shots. As we both grabbed them Jenny initiated a toast between the two, "Katie, you deserve the world. He's to your first drink, and more importantly your new life. Here's to your first and last hoorah before classes start on Monday. Cheers to 21 years my girl!" We clink glasses are both take our shots simultaneously. The Alcohol burned going down and I knew the night would be a crazy one
A few hours in of shots and mingling with other clubbers, I decided I needed a break. I kept trying to ward alcohol off but Jen wasn't having it; she kept feeding me shots until we were both plastered. We were laughing and swaying, holding onto each other as we made our way over to the empty couch near the dance floor where we sat down. This was a night I needed. It wasn't five minutes later we sat down that a guy came over to ask Jenny to dance, of course the social butterfly accepted the invitation. She was out there in no time grinding on him to the music while I sat quietly alone looking around the room. It could pass for a scene in dirty dancing by the looks of it, I definitely didn't have those moves.
I scan the room looking around, strobe lights continue to blind me at times, a Cardi B remix was being played by the DJ. I decide to head back over to the bar instead of sitting like a lost dog staring at my friend getting dry fucked by a rando in public. I order
Another shot and a vodka cranberry. I take the shot right away but didn't feel anything. I was already hazy and numb to the feeling of liquor coursing through my blood. I stood there sipping the vodka cran slowly through the skinny black straw when I felt someone approach me brushing against my side.
I look up making eye contact and see a an easily tall five foot eleven man with a faded out dark Brown hair style standing too close next to me for it to be coincidental. I'm talking centimeters. No personal space. He was hot.
"Do you wanna dance?!" He yelled, not making eye contact instead continuing to stare out to the dance floor. His voice gave me goose bumps. I tore my lips from my straw and looked past him trying to see if there was anyone else standing next to him, surely he wasn't talking to me. Nope, no one else. Not even the bartender. HOLY FUCK. he's talking to me. Okay think. Don't say anything stupid.
For a split second I thought about ignoring him and walking away but the liquor gave me a courage I never had before.
It's now or never kate it's been months since you got laid, bring him home!
I thought to myself and made a split second decision, one I didn't know if my sober self would agree with. I moved a tad closer to him closing what gap there was left of any personal space between us.
"I don't know I'm not so good on my feet!" He then looked at me catching his eyes with mine. The second they collided it was a like a bolt of electricity coursing through my veins. Who is he?! And why is he talking to me?
