It was cold.
It was always cold in Erast. It may have been summer when the group made this trip, but it always snows in Erast. It was one of the coldest regions in all of Nalthis. But Calvin was used to it now, he had been traveling for years. He leaned up against an old oak tree as he stood guard a few feet away from the blazing fire. The light danced off the leaves and the bushes around him and his group. He had offered to keep watch so his group could get some well-deserved shut eye. They had just gotten done with some... Rescue mission? Calvin doesn't remember. His eyes heavy with exhaustion, he still stood. His back against the tree, his arms crossed.
His dark eyes scanned over his best friend first, seeing her sleeping peacefully on the sheep skin that she had just bought. How she managed to get the farmer to lower the price was beyond him. Then his eyes shifted over to Damian. Damian had been the newest addition to his group, but it wasn't by choice. Damian had been the leader of the rebellion, the same rebellion he was originally fighting against. Come to find out, they were fighting for the same thing. And Valorie always saw the good in people, so Damian stayed with them. Calvin's eyes shifted again, scanning over Damian. They had been traveling together for a while now and they still butheads about trivial things. Such as where and when to stop when traveling but... over time, Calvin started to grow some feelings for the other man.
Calvin couldn't really place it, he used to hate Damian with every fiber of his whole being. But never in his 21 years on this planet had he felt like this. Calvin shook his head, shaking the thought out of his mind. There was no way, there can't be.
"Calvin?" Came a soft whisper from across the fire, Calvin tilted his head back up, finding Damian's eyes staring back at him. Calvin should have known, Damian never sleeps. It often reminded Calvin of a vampire, with the way he just lays there with his arms across his chest. Calvin didn't move, nor did he respond back to Damian in fear of waking up Valorie.
"Calvin" He whispered again, shifting his body to get up off the ground. Damian was just a bit shorter than he was, but it wasn't enough to make him look down at the other man. Calvin's eyes never left Damian and the dark haired man as he moved around the fire with such grace. It was to be expected, Damian was the prince of Anghor Thorn after all. Damian didn't take his eyes off the Knight either, making his way closer until they were merely a couple inches apart. Damian let out a breath, Calvin still didn't move.
He could have stepped back, away from the tree and put space between them. But he just couldn't, there was something in his brain from stopping him. Damian looked at him with a fire in his eyes, they blazed with an emotion Calvin didn't know that Damian was capable of. Calvin could see every detail of his face from this close up. He could see the flecks of pink in Damian's red eyes. He could see the small blemishes of Damian's otherwise porcelain skin. He could make out the soft freckles and the small moles under his right eye. He could also see the tiny scars on his face. From all the battles he had been in. Calvin couldn't deny that Damian was attractive, you'd be a fool not to think that. Maybe that's why Valorie fell so hard and fast for the man. But Calvin was there when he heard Damian reject her advances. He remembered comforting a distraught Valorie while continuing their journey like nothing had happened.
"We need to talk about something" Damian whispered, His eyes flickering down for a moment, his long eyelashes covering his eyes before they flicked back up. Calvin couldn't tell what the older man was thinking, nor was he going to try and understand anything. "About.. You" Now that wasn't what Calvin was expecting.
"What about me?" Calvin asked, and the look on Damian's face said it all. Calvin's face hardened, he didn't want to deal with this right now, but he wasn't going to start another fight. Not after his promise with Valorie. Damian took a deep breath before answering Calvin.
