02:30 am:
This scene is undesirable. People line the neon yellow tape surrounding the crime scene. The flashes of cameras are illuminating the corner's blue jacket. The screaming of concerned parents flood my ears as I enter the scene.
"Family of eight," Rebecca points out. "Six strangled but two are stabbed using a knife from their kitchen. We suspect the parents came home and surprised the killer, forcing him to change his MO. But the calling card is still the same; ligature to the left palm of each victim."
"Any survivors?"
"Not by the looks of it, but we are scanning rooms just in case. It would take a miracle to find anyone alive."
"This man, this person, this monster must be stopped before he wipes out all of Rockwell!"
Pondering the insight of the crime, a large noise erupts out of the dinning room.
"He's alive!" An officer shouts when signalling over EMS. "This child is, alive!"
Quickly, everyone rushes into the large open area. There on the middle of the ground is a boy not much older than seven, choking on his own blood. His clothes are battered, his face is covered in blood, each leg is uncontrollably shaking like they have epilepsy.
"...h...help...." The boy chokes on his word as he droops to his left side. "...help...me"
As the EMS flood through the double door, whispers begin to fill the silence.
"Is this a mistake?"
"He could be a sign!"
"That boy is a miracle!"
As the EMS proceed to prepare the boy for transport, our eyes lock. His green eyes have seen hell and back. I am his only chance at ever getting piece.
"It....it....it took her...." The boy chokes.
Gazing around I point to myself and the boy nods. What could this boy be indicating? He has no memory of last night, he does not know me, yet he is acting like he knows something.
"Pardon?" I ask shoving the EMS out of my way.
"It....it....it told me to tell you.....under its's mask....it....it took a girl...."
"What was that girls name?"
Reaching into my side pocket, my clammy hand grips a notepad and pen.
"Her...her... Leslie Bennet...."
