Amira woke up to the sound of her alarm buzzing insistently, pulling her out of a restless sleep. As she reached for her phone, she instinctively checked her messages, hoping to see a familiar text. Still, there was nothing.
No "Buen día, Ria."
Her chest tightened a little. Alejandro always sent her a morning message—always. Maybe he was just busy or forgot? Shaking off the unease, she typed out a quick text:
"Good morning, Ale! Hope you slept well."
She tried not to dwell on it as she got ready for her shoot, burying herself in work. Hours later, while on a break, she saw her message had been opened, but Alejandro hadn't replied. Amira stared at the screen for a moment, her chest sinking slightly.
He's probably preparing for the game, she reassured herself.
That afternoon, Barcelona was playing against Sevilla, and Alejandro wouldn't check his phone until after the match. Determined not to let her thoughts spiral, she sent him another message:
"Good luck today!💕 You'll do amazing, as always."
As much as she wanted to watch the game live, her packed schedule made it impossible. She had a critical shoot and was knee-deep in planning for her upcoming brand trip. Her manager, Laura, had invited her over to the office to finalize details, and Amira found herself sprawled across the sofa with a notebook in one hand and a remote in the other, flipping through channels to find the match.

In Laura's Office
"How's the trip planning coming along?" Laura asked as she glanced over Amira's half-filled notes.
"Slow," Amira admitted, groaning as she tossed the notebook onto the coffee table. "I have so many names in mind, but narrowing it down feels impossible."
Laura tilted her head, her tone turning mischievous. "And how's it going with Alejandro?"
Amira blinked, caught off guard. "The fake dating thing? It's going fine," she said, keeping her voice neutral.
"That's not what I asked," Laura said, smirking. "Do you *like* him?"
Amira hesitated, chewing on her bottom lip. "That's the thing... I don't know. I'm scared to even think about it. After what happened with Michael, I don't want to get my heart broken again. And Alejandro doesn't seem like the type who's ready to settle down. He's so focused on his career."
Laura gave her a sympathetic look. "It's okay to be scared, but don't let some jerk like Michael ruin your chance at happiness. And, honestly, which guy wouldn't do anything to be with you?"
Amira laughed softly, though Laura's words lingered in her mind.

That Evening
Amira was sitting cross-legged on her bed later that night, scrolling through social media while the match played in the background on her TV. Barcelona had won 4–1, and Alejandro had played phenomenally, as always. She smiled to herself, proud of him.
Her phone buzzed suddenly, and her heart jumped when she saw Alejandro was FaceTiming her.
"Hey, Ale," she greeted, her face lighting up. "Congratulations on the win! You were amazing."
"Thanks, Ria," he said, his smile faint.
They talked about the match, but Amira quickly noticed something was off. Alejandro wasn't his usual lively self. He seemed distracted, his gaze occasionally drifting away from the screen.
