"Wish we didn't have this stupid test so that we could all hang out tonight. I really wanted to watch Legally Blonde as a group tonight." Abbey groaned while we all walked out into the parking lot, backpacks tossed over our shoulders. Gunner was the only person who didn't bring a bag to school because he argued that it would 'ruin his sex appeal'. He could be so dramatic sometimes. At the mention of legally Blonde, Gunners face screwed up at her comment.
"Thank god for Algebra then. I don't get why are you so obsessed with that stupid movie. It's not even good." He protested we girls all gave him matching daggers. Next Molly and I gave one another a knowing look, Abbey wasn't going to take kindly to that.
"You don't know what you're talking about. It's an amazing movie. So roma-" Abbey was interrupted.
"Ergh romance, even worse." He complained, Abbey narrowed her eyes at him.
"How dare you disrespect romances, they're my favourite." She said while she suddenly seemed to become lost in thought before she shook herself back into the moment.
"Why though? No guy is going to do half the shit in those movies. It's unrealistic." Gunner argued, using his hands to put emphasis on his point. I hated when these two argued over something because they are just both so hard-headed that it always resulted in them, aggressively, agreeing to disagree.
"Coming from the least romantic guy ever. You wouldn't know a grand gesture if it slapped you in the face." Abbey rolled her eyes, looking at Dillon and Xavier trying to get them to back her up but they both made faces like they had just smelled something really bad.
"Neither would you, an average guy could be standing right in front of you with a bouquet of flowers and you'd be looking over his shoulder for Ryan Gosling standing beside the house he built for you. You're desensitizing yourself to real romance, those films are toxic if anything." Gunner retorted, he rested against his car and shrugged to himself. Abbey was smart but like we previously said, Gunner had a way of making everything he said right so it was hard to argue with him without feeling like a total idiot.
"Whatever, the day someone sweeps me off my feet with big grand gestures you'll see that it's you who has the problem and not romance films," Abbey stated while unlocking her car and pointing a finger at him, Gunner rolled his eyes and a small smirk set on his lips.
"Can't wait to meet her." He chuckled. She started up her engine while Molly and Xavier piled up into her Honda Civic, Gunner had clearly hit a nerve. As soon as they closed the doors she reversed out of her parking space quickly, taking extra care to wind down her window and stick her middle finger up at Gunner as she left.
"Let's get moving Ivy," Dillon ordered after being silent for practically the entire conversation. He shook his keys in front of my face like I was a baby and he was trying to get my attention.
"I was gonna go with Gunner I thought," I trailed, confused, turning to Gunner for an explanation.
"No can do cupcake, I've got to visit Amber tonight. What's the big deal? It's Dillon he's not gonna eat you" He said with a sweet smile on his face, Amber is Gunner's little sister who lives with his mother. They don't see each other often but when they do he laps up every second with her that he can. It's actually quite sweet, he was the perfect older brother and I was envious of Amber for a beat. I had always wished I had a sibling that cared for me as Gunner cared for his sister.
I had the realisation that to him it was strange for me to not want to go with Dillon, before what had happened I would have been excited for him to be the one taking me home. I'm sure Gunner noticed this sudden change judging by the look he was giving me.
"If I'm a cupcake, like you say, then how can you guarantee that he isn't, in fact, going to eat me?" I pointed out. Gunner gave me an evil look as if he was going to say something very, very dirty so I gave him a look in return as if to say 'Don't you dare'.
