Morning sunlight slipped through the curtains, landing on your face as the alarm clock went off, its familiar chime nudging you awake. You blinked, yawning as you stretched. It was another early start in Seoul, but routine had a way of comforting you. Sakura, your best friend and roommate, was already out of bed, slipping into her sneakers with a mischievous grin.
"Rise and shine, sleepyhead!" she called, tossing you your water bottle. "You're not ditching our morning run, right?"
Rolling your eyes, you grinned back. "I'm up, I'm up. Five minutes to get dressed?"It was your usual morning ritual—both of you out the door by 4 a.m., laced up and ready for two hours of jogging through the city streets. This had become one of your favorite parts of the day, a quiet time before the chaos of classes, assignments, and the constant buzz of university life.
By the time you returned home, it was 6 a.m., and you were sweaty but energized. Sakura headed straight to the kitchen, pulling ingredients from the fridge. "It's my turn for breakfast duty," she declared, glancing over her shoulder. "You'd better shower before you stink up the place.""Thanks, bestie," you teased, giving her a light shove before heading to get cleaned up.As you showered, you thought about how grateful you were for these small moments. Living in a bustling city, studying abroad with your best friend, having adventures between classes—it was all you had ever wanted. For a moment, you felt a pang of nostalgia, as if something precious was slipping through your fingers. But you shook it off as nothing more than lingering tiredness.
Once you were dressed in your favorite outfit—comfy black baggy pants, a plain white t-shirt, and your oversized white and black shirt—you felt ready to face the day. You slipped on your Nike Air Jordans, glancing over at Sakura, who had dressed in a nearly identical outfit but in the opposite colors.

"Look at us, matching unintentionally again," you joked, and she flashed you a smirk. As she set two plates down, you dug into breakfast, sharing laughs and recounting the morning's mini-chaos, like how you'd nearly tripped over a stray cat during your run. Sakura ribbed you for your "reckless hero instincts" as you both finished your food and got ready to leave. At 7:30 a.m., you grabbed your backpack, slinging it over your shoulder as you walked toward the door."See ya after class," you said, but something made you pause. You turned around, your gut twisting with an unshakeable feeling. A chill swept over you, a familiar instinct you'd developed from dealing with past traumas and the hyper-awareness they'd left you with."Sakura," you called out, and she turned to face you, a questioning look in her eyes."Yeah?" she said, her eyebrows raised."Take care, alright?" you said, feeling a need to say it out loud. "And don't do anything stupid till I get back, okay?"She scoffed, waving a dismissive hand. "Please. Are you gonna die in just a few hours or something?" Her playful tone lifted your spirits a little. "See ya later, dude."
With one last glance, you both headed off, parting ways at the campus gate as you each headed to your separate classes. It was just another typical day—or so you thought.
