Today is the day. Today I will finally make her mine. I’ve been in love with Allyson Warfield since Homecoming of my sophomore year, and this is the first time we’ve both been single at the same time. She went on a trip with her family, and they flew in late last night. I hope she’s at school today.

I left my bedroom and went downstairs to get something to eat. I grabbed an apple off the table and made myself a cup of coffee to go. My mom walked into the kitchen and let out a squeal.

“Chris! You’re all dressed up today!” She greeted.

I looked down. I’m wearing a blue button up shirt that’s ocean blue just like my eyes and black jeans. I smiled.

“Yes ma’am.” I replied.

“Any special occasion?”

“You know the girl I’ve had feelings for but haven’t dated yet?”

“Allyson, right?”

“Yes ma’am. We’re finally both single. I’m going to ask her to be my girlfriend today.”

My mom smiled. “Good luck son. Tell me how it goes. I’m sure she’ll say yes. She has feelings for you?”

“Yes. We both confessed our feelings last year.”

Mom smiled. “I’m glad you two are finally able to get together then.”

“I hope we’re able to. It depends on if someone else gets to her first.”

“Good luck.”

“Thank you.”

“Have a good day.”

I nodded, gave her a hug and headed out the door. I jumped into my green Mustang and started the engine. My older brother Ben bought it for me for my sixteenth birthday and it’s completely paid off. I’m seventeen now.

I made it to school in record time. I live on the opposite side of town from the school, so it takes me longer to get there than almost all my friends. I parked in my usual spot and shut off the engine. As I got out of my car my hands started shaking. Why am I so nervous? I locked up my car and headed to the band hall where my group hangs out at. As I walked up there, I felt my heart drop to my knees.

There she was. Was she alone? No. Joshua Smith had his arms around her, and they were kissing. Why would she get with him when we’ve talked about getting together? He got to her first. They live together, why wouldn’t he jump on the opportunity to be with her? I felt my eyes water up with tears. I ran away from the group and punched the brick school building multiple times, causing my knuckles to bleed. Fuck. I stared at my hand until Ashanti came running over.

“Oh my God Chris! You’re bleeding! Are you okay?”

“Yeah. Punched the wall. I’ll be okay.”

“Why did you do that?”

I shrugged. “Got pissed.”

Ashanti went into her bag and pulled out bandage wrap. She’s in the Nursing program and is always prepared. She wiped off the wound and wrapped it up with the bandage. I’m pretty sure she’s single. I can’t stand by, and watch Ally be with Josh. Maybe I’ll date Ashanti until Josh and Ally break up. Ashanti is attractive and we have a history. I don’t want to be alone and watch the love of my life with another man. Once Ashanti was finished wrapping up my hand, I gave her a hug.

“Thank you.”

Ashanti smiled. “You’re welcome.”

“You’re single, right?”

“Yeah. Josh and I broke up five days ago. Why?”
