It was a cold February night. He was nervous and running late. Thankfully she was running later. He wasn't a romantic nor could he find flowers. To be fair, he didn't even know where to find them.
So he thought iced coffee would do. He didn't know her order, so he bought what he would have. He remembered to ask for a straw, not thinking much of it.
He was out in the cold, an iced coffee in one hand and that straw in the other. He was freezing but then he saw her - his body suddenly feeling a warmth that it never felt before.
She saw him standing out there waiting. She saw the iced coffee and she saw that straw. She knew this time it was different, but she couldn't figure out why.
It wasn't love at first sight, well maybe not for her. Rather, it was a curiosity. She wondered "how did he remember to ask for a straw, I never told him". He was out there, waiting for her to finally step out of her car, but unknowingly holding her heart in his palm.
They inevitably met, he handed her the iced coffee and the straw. He could tell she didn't really enjoy the coffee, but she finished it regardless.
Soon that curiosity developed into a familiarity, it was like they've known each other for years, even though they met for the first time that night. They spent hours wandering around, with each touch fulfilling a longing that only their souls could understand.
They couldn't understand what was happening, nor did they try to. The truth is, it didn't really matter - what mattered was that they finally found themselves in each other.
They came as single, and while they didn't go as a couple, they left with a feeling that would soon blossom into a love so deep that it would engulf their entire being.
It was a cold February night. Neither of them could've imagined that this night would shape their lives the way it did. Maybe it was the iced coffee, or maybe it was that straw.
