The sun dipped below the horizon as the car rolled down the winding road, casting long shadows that danced across the asphalt. Inside, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement and the sounds of laughter echoed off the walls. y/n sat in the back seat between Colby and Elton, the two friends trading jokes while Sam navigated the winding road, his eyes gleaming with mischief in the rearview mirror.
"Just a few more minutes until we reach the asylum!" Sam announced, his voice thick with anticipation. Corey, seated in the passenger seat, leaned back to share in the excitement. "I can't wait to see if the rumors are true! I heard the last group that went there had some crazy experiences," he added, his eyes sparkling.
y/n's heart raced at the thought of exploring a haunted location. She had joined the group for fun, but a part of her was genuinely intrigued by the supernatural. She caught Colby's eye, and he flashed her a playful grin. "You ready for this?" he asked, his tone teasing yet sincere.
"Ready as I'll ever be," y/n replied, matching his enthusiasm as her stomach fluttered with nervous energy.
As they pulled into the parking lot of the asylum, the imposing building loomed before them, its darkened windows and crumbling façade sending shivers down y/n's spine. The group climbed out of the car, their flashlights in hand, illuminating the overgrown path leading to the entrance.
"Let's stick together, guys," Sam said, his voice steadying as they approached the massive wooden doors. "This place has a history, and we don't know what might be waiting for us inside."
Colby took y/n's hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze as they stepped through the threshold. The air was thick with dust, and the smell of mold filled their nostrils. As they ventured deeper into the asylum, the creaking floorboards beneath their feet echoed through the silence.
"Did you hear that?" Elton suddenly stopped, his eyes wide.
Corey snickered, "It's just the building settling, man."
y/n's pulse quickened as they moved further into the darkness, the chill in the air wrapping around them like a heavy blanket. The group split up to cover more ground, Sam and Corey heading toward the basement, while y/n, Colby, and Elton decided to explore the upper floors.
As they climbed the rickety staircase, y/n felt a mix of fear and excitement. Colby stayed close to her, their shoulders brushing against one another with every step. "You're not scared, are you?" he teased, nudging her gently.
"Not scared, just... alert," she shot back, a grin spreading across her face.
"Good. I'll be right here if you need me," he said softly, his voice dropping to a serious tone for a moment that sent butterflies fluttering in y/n's stomach.
They reached the second floor and began to explore the long, dark hallway lined with empty rooms. The atmosphere felt heavy, almost as if the walls themselves were alive with stories waiting to be told. They cautiously stepped into an old patient room, the faint outline of rusted beds and shattered furniture barely visible in the beam of their flashlights.
"This place is so creepy," y/n whispered, a mix of dread and exhilaration coursing through her veins.
"Yeah, but think of the stories we'll tell after this!" Colby replied, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
As they ventured further, a loud bang echoed through the hallway, causing y/n to jump and instinctively grab Colby's arm. He looked at her, his eyes wide with surprise, and then burst out laughing. "See? I told you it was just the building settling!"
