Retribution

Nova Callisto, Natalie Kitsunara

Prologue

1

  "This… is your retribution, Nova."

A sentence that couldn't escape his head since that day. The day Nova's father left him to suffer. The same day Nova's life changed forever - and the same day Nova would grow to despise his own blood. Nova was pretty unruly growing up, but in his eyes he never deserved his father abandoning him.

2

The scene was different from both perspectives, but the fact forever remains; Nova's mother is dead. His father, Orion, blames him and hates his own son. He stopped caring for Nova, no longer providing him with basic needs. Orion wanted him gone. So much so that he couldn't even bat an eye when Nova was getting jumped by a pack of thugs in his hometown. Orion left Nova to fend for himself, hoping Nova wouldn't make it out alive… but his hope wasn't enough. Nova returned home late that night, bruised and angry.

3

"Some father you are!" Nova would shout at him, trying to get through his thick skin. Orion didn't budge. He only saw Nova as a reminder of what he lost - his wife.

"I knew you'd survive." Orion replied back, gritting his teeth as he spewed a cold lie. His words felt heartless. Nova just grit his teeth, he has had it with this rocky relationship. Nova stormed upstairs and began packing, clumsily shoving his belongings into a bag. As soon as he finished he headed back down the stairs and to the door, where his father was now standing.

4

They exchanged cold glares to one another. Glares that spoke many words that may be unspoken for the rest of time.

"Blocking the door isn't going to stop me." Nova said in a raspy tone.

"I know." Orion clapped back, still not showing an ounce of care. This hurt Nova deep inside, but he didn't show it. Nova began trying to push past his father to the door but Orion grabbed his wrist.

"This… is your retribution, Nova. You'll understand someday." Orion said, as he let go of his son. Nova scoffed and began to raise his voice.

"Get over yourself, will you?! Mom's death was NOT on me." Nova said as he swung the door open. He took one last look at his old man. Orion had hoped this would be the last look they gave each other.

  "Goodbye.. Orion."

5

"Retribution…" Nova sighed to himself in front of a campfire as he sharpened his blade.

"Whatcha thinkin' about?" A girl asked. Nova snapped out of his trance and looked to his companion sitting on the opposite side of the campfire. The girl's emerald eyes were illuminated by the fire, almost looking like two gems… and her hair, a dark orangish-red, almost looking like the fire itself.
