July 14, 2009

It was summer; the wind was blowing, the sun was shining, and most importantly, you were happy. Well, you were happy and excited at the same time. You didn't have any school and finally had a break from your dance lessons, and most importantly, this was your first summer vacation with your family on a cruise.

"Y/N, are you ready!?" You heard your mom calling you from downstairs. "We need to pick up your aunt and uncle before the cruise sails!"

"Coming!" you screamed before quickly grabbing the suitcase you packed the night before and heading downstairs, where your mom was waiting for you, and of course once your mother saw you, she started to bombard you with a bunch of questions to make sure you packed the right things.

"Did you bring your toothbrush?" She asked.

"Yep," you said, rolling your eyes a little.

"Did you bring your hairbrush?". She then continued asking questions that you thought were unnecessary and making sure both of you (mostly you) were ready before heading out. While your mom kept talking, you heard heavy footsteps coming from the stairs. You turned your head, knowing exactly who it was.

"Ok, I think we're ready." Your mom finally finished; she stayed quiet for a minute before scrunching her face; something or someone was missing. "Where's your dad?" you chuckle a little.

"There," you said, pointing at your dad excitedly. He looked at both of you and smiled.

"Yep, here I am, dressed and ready to go," your dad grined before ruffling your hair.

"Ok, then, let's get going."

"finally!" You sighed with relief.

"sorry sweetie I had you make sure you packed the right things," your mother smiled, grabbing her keys before heading towards the door. Your dad followed behind while he grabbed your hand so you wouldn't stay left behind.

"Yeah, Sweetie, your mother just wanted to see if you didn't pack unnecessary things."

You groaned loudly at your parents actions; you never understood why they acted like this (mostly your mom) when it came to you getting ready on your own; it's not like you were a baby; you were 12 years old after all! You were a "big kid." You rolled your eyes and decided to keep quiet. Your mother, you, and your father headed to the car to pick up your aunt and uncle from their house. They weren't the only family members who were going on the vacation, but they needed to be picked up because their old car broke down.

This vacation was something you weren't ready for; you were so excited you could explode and your parents would not stop hearing about it all week. Your little kid brain couldn't comprehend how you could spend time on a giant boat having fun on water slides, eating at restaurants, buying stuff (you didn't really know what was sold in a cruise shop, but you were about to find out), sleeping in a bed inside of a room that looked like a hotel room. It was all so new, but as exciting as this was for you, you didn't really have anyone your age to share this excitement with. Sure, you're grateful you can spend time with your uncles, grandparents, and cousins, but you couldn't really have fun with them like you would with a friend your age.

Once you all got together, you took a family picture and headed inside. You got your keys to your room, and your family vacation had finally started. You were going to be on the cruise for around 12 days and 12 nights, so you had lots of time to explore (or at least you think you did; you really didn't know how this stuff worked). The first few days were pretty exciting. You explored the place with your older cousins; you had dinner with your grandparents; you danced with your aunt and uncle; and you spent time with your parents. Technically, everything was going great. You were having a great time, and you were really happy to be there with your family, but there was something that bordered you, and it was the areas that were designated for the kids your age. You see, there were three designated areas on the cruise: the area for the kids that were 6–12 years old, the area for the 13–17 year olds, and the area for the adults. They made these areas In the pools and at the parties so everyone could have fun and so the parents didn't have to worry about their kids. This is no problem; in fact, you were pretty excited to meet kids your age. Let's put emphasis on the kids your age part, because there were no kids your age whatsoever in the area you were designated in. You were (conviniently) the only twelve-year-old in your area; the rest of the kids were at least six or seven, no older than that, and you were kind of bummed out. You decided to go back to the room you shared with your parents and stay there for most of the days since you weren't allowed to go to the big kids area. When your parents came back every day to the room, they would see you lying down on the bed, looking defeated. And so after seeing to sulk for a few days, your parents looked at each other with a little concern and walked towards the bed to talk to you.
