I've always hated the first days of school. They are filled with a bunch of people running into each other. I dreaded walking into the doors of campus as I sat in my car waiting until I needed to walk into the building. My teachers have never had high expectations for me. I get in trouble a lot, and I don't make the best grades. I have never been interested in hanging out with others. I enjoy being alone. It's easier that way; I don't have to worry about the opinions and expectations of others. I finally decided to go inside after hearing the first bell ring. My first class is science. I make my way down the hall as I scroll through my phone, all of a sudden, I'm hit with the warm smell of vanilla as I collide with someone knocking all of their papers onto the floor. I look up and start apologizing to her, "Ma'am, I am so sorry I was looking at my phone, I-" before I'm cut off. "Don't worry about it; I'm so clumsy I wasn't looking where I was going either." She says with a warm smile. I helped her gather all of her papers before standing up.
"I'm sorry again; I'll watch where I'm going next time, ma'am." She scrunches her nose and looks at me, "Please just call me Ms. Prentiss, Ma'am makes me feel old." I let out a little giggle. "Sorry, miss."
"Go head to class, I don't want you to be too late, who is your first period? I'll walk you and let your teacher know you were with another teacher and not just walking in late on the first day for no reason.
"I have Math with Mr. Hotchner." We start heading toward the room, and as I reach the door, the late bell goes off. I open the door, and Mr.Hotchner looks at me with a glare, "care to share why you couldn't bother to be on time for my class?" he says with an annoyed tone. "I ran into her, and she was kind enough to help me pick up my things. It wasn't her fault if I had been looking where I was going, your student would have made it on time." Ms. Prentiss snaps back. Damn, that was hot. "Don't let it happen again, find a seat, please." God, this was not how I wanted my day to start. The class passed by slowly as I listened to the first of many lectures about dress codes, rules, and what we would be learning about this year.
As soon as the bell rang, I practically ran out of the room. I pull my schedule out of my back pocket, and I realize I have Ms.Prentiss for English. I walk out of the building and make my way across the courtyard to the other building. When I walk into the classroom she is looking at her computer. She looks mad, it's only been an hour. What could have pissed her off already?
I sit toward the front, something I never do. She draws me in, plus she has a nice rack so the view isn't bad either. She looks up from her computer and meets my eyes. For a split second, I swear she looked at me like she was hungry and I was her meal. As quickly as it happened it had me questioning if I was imagining it or if she really looked at me like that. She stands up from her desk walking around to the front of it.
"Good morning everyone, My name is Ms.Prentiss. I will be your English teacher for the year and for some of you I will also be seeing later in my history class. I have rules I expect to be followed" She looks at me before saying "If my rules are not followed it will result in being punished." she averts her eyes from mine. My cheeks are bright red as I slip down in my seat. I don't know why that turned me on so much.
"I don't tolerate disrespect, I do not accept late work unless you talk to me before the due date and I mean not an hour before the assignment is due, if you are more than 10 minutes late I'm marking you absent I don't care if you walk in the door right on the ten-minute mark you're being marked absent and will need to go down to the office to get a late pass if you have more then three missing assignment you and your parent or guardian will be notified through an email. They are simple rules, you give me respect and I'll respect you too, disrespect me and I will not cut you the same slack as others. Understood?"
