Three months later

I sit at my vanity styling my hair when I hear a soft knock at the door.

"Come in!" I tell whoever it is. I turn around as the door swings open to see Angel holding a small wrapped package with Knox right beside him.

"Hello, Miss Y/N." Angel says gently. He's a feeble older man with fluffy white hair. Knox nods his head at me as his greeting. He has dark blonde hair with deep blue eyes.

"Hello! Also, you don't have to call me miss." I chuckle softly as I stand from my vanity to walk over to them. Angel is old enough to be my grandpa and is always shaky so I don't want to make him walk over to me, and Knox always tags along with them but never actually does his job so.

"My apologies." Angel smiles. "I have a present from your father for you."

"A present? What for?" I ask as he sets it in my opens hands.

"He said one of the guys at last night's "business meeting" were wearing them and he thought they'd look better on you." Knox answers for him. I don't like Knox, something about him seems off.

I nod my head as I unwrap the wrapping paper from the little black box used to for jewelry.  I smile when I open the box to see tiny diamond earrings.

"Don't worry. Your father had them cleaned off so there's no blood on them." Angel reassures me. He's such a cute old man.

"Thank you for bringing them to me!"

He smiles in return and fixes his Donald Duck tie. "Of course. I'm always here to help."

"I'm glad you are, and I like your tie."

"Why, thank you. My daughter got it for me last year on my sixty fifth birthday."

"That's sweet!" I smile but I actually feel bad. My father usually has people in-debt to him work around the house which means Angel is somehow got tangled with my dad and now he's away from his family, he's away from that granddaughter.

When I'm in charge I want to change that. I don't want to pull people away from their lives and force them to be a maid, butler, or chef just because they owe me. I've fought with my dad over it before. One time I brought up the fact that it's literally indentured servitude which was a huge part of slavery back in the day, and I got grounded because of it. According to him what I said shows that I have no respect for him and my mom.

Apparently he didn't like getting a history lesson.

Knox grabs Angel's arm and begins to pull him away.

"We must go now, miss." He bows his head slightly before exiting my room with Angel. I go back to my vanity and begin styling my hair again. My father is going to be having a meeting with his men about what they think the Sullivan's are planning. Their leader was recently murdered by his son and successor and now they've been radio silent so everyone is worried.

My father wants me to be there so I can get used to this kind of stuff. I finish doing my hair before putting in the earring I was just given. I grab my favorite dress out of my closet and nice shoes before putting them on. Lastly, I do some light makeup before heading down stairs. I walk past my mother's paintings that fill the walls of hall checking to see if there is any new ones before entering my dad's office.

All eyes fall on me immediately. I ignore them and walk over to sit on the top of my dad's desk.

"Hello, honey. You look beautiful." Dad smiles up at me.

"Thank you!"

"Do you like the earrings?"

"Absolutely."

"Good." He gives me one last smile before looking back at the others. "It's been a over two months since Dawson Sullivan killed his father, Finn Sullivan. We haven't heard a thing about them since and we need to make sure that they're not planning anything." He explains to them.

"They haven't been keeping with their dealings." Flynn, my father's best friend, adds to the conversation. "That was always one of Finn Sullivan's priority but it's clearly not one of his son's."

"Really?" Waylon Reeds questions.

"Really."

"The problem with Dawson being in charge is that we no nothing about him other than the stories of how brutal he is. At any event his father bragged about how skilled his son is at killing, while Dawson never talked." My dad is right. Finn was always rather loud and dramatic when it came to anything so it was always obvious when he planned on doing something, but his kid is the opposite.

"We need to find a way to get information on him. Flynn, can you contact the last people they did business with and figure out if they know anything?" Flynn nods his head at me and pulls out his phone to start finding people to talk to.

Waylon looks me up and down then smiles. "Are you sure you won't let her have even one date with my son?" He asks my dad.

"No." We answer at the same time.

"Come on, he's a good boy. He'll be a good husband." Waylon tries to reassure us.

"With all due respect Mr. Reeds, your son might be a good husband for someone but certainly not for me. Your son has muscles instead of brains and when he does use that small bit of smarts he has he uses it to make ignorant remarks about women." I tell him trying to get across the message that I will never become a Reeds. I don't want someone like that, never have never will. I would rather shove a gun down my throat and pull the trigger before allowing myself to be tied to someone who has no respect for my gender. Waylon glances at my father then back at me before leaning back in his seat and shutting his mouth.

"We just need to make sure we're discreet about our snooping. If we're not careful we could have the Messenger after us, and we all know the things that man is capable of." Xander Folk says, ignoring what just happened. Xander is a very skilled man, him and my father trained together when they were growing up. Xander was also the person to train my brother and I. My brother has always looked up to him because of how strong he is. If he could have picked who his parent was he would have chosen Xander and not our actual dad.

It's also probably because my dad and brother do not get along. They butt heads and get angry with each other for acting a certain way, but the thing is they act they exact same. Quinton is absolutely my father's son.

"Waylon, tell Angel and Knox to get us men some scotch and bring my daughter her favorite drink." My father tells Mr. Reeds since he's closest to the door. He nods his heads before opening the door and quickly telling them what my dad wants.
