“You’re here again?” Chaeyoung teased right away when she saw Lisa entering their apartment. “Are you joining us for dinner, third night in a row?”

“Well, that depends. What’s for dinner?” Lisa asked. Chaeyoung and her life partner Jisoo was on their kitchen, busy preparing said dinner.

“For a hot-shot engineer, you sure seem to like smooching off free food.” The blonde artist scoffed.

“Fried chicken!” Jisoo interjected, gave a nod Lisa’s way as a greeting as she set another plate for Lisa.

“Again? Don’t you guys have anything else to offer me?” Lisa sat by the dining table opposite the couple.

Jisoo stood up, got herself a banana from the fruit bowl at the kitchen counter, peeled and bit the fruit. “Here, eat this.” The Korean unceremoniously tossed Lisa the half-eaten banana, which she quickly dodged. The fruit splat at the edge of the dinner table.

“Yah! Kim Jisoo! Why are you flinging trash at me?”

“Yah, Lalisa. You are wasting food!” Jisoo picked up the fruit mush and peel and attempted to give it again to Lisa who stood up from her chair and ran away from the Korean. They played their mini-tag at the tiny kitchen for a couple of minutes before they got reprimanded.

“Stop it, kids! Seriously?” Chaeyoung eyed them both, exasperated. After placing a plate of freshly fried chicken at the table she motioned the two to join her. “Sit. Or no more food for the both of you.”

“Yes, ma’am.” Jisoo and Lisa said in unison and got back on their seats.

The blonde picked a thigh part and handed it to Jisoo, who just smiled lovingly at her girlfriend.

The older Korean then picked a piece of fried chicken, wing part, Lisa’s favorite, and placed it on her plate. She muttered her thanks and smiled at her friend.

Jisoo and her, they had a falling out of sorts six years ago. They didn’t actually fight or anything, it just happened that they were leading toward very different directions in life. Jisoo seemed contented working for her dad’s construction firm, she didn’t even finish her studies—for Lisa, she considered that as just another way of bumming around. One more thing, Jisoo was so hooked on Chaeyoung. All her friend was able to talk about was Chaeyoung this, Chaeyoung that. I mean, the blonde was nice and all and also her friend, but all Jisoo wanted to do after meeting her girlfriend was that—to be Chaeyoung’s girlfriend.

Also, an opportunity came knocking on Lisa’s door, she left Jisoo’s father’s firm and joined an uncle in his first construction project in Jeju. Her uncle used to work for the government, his connection helped him finally land contracts for government-funded projects. Before Lisa knew it, their own company was growing, but it was based in their province in Thailand. She was in Buri Ram when Jisoo announced that Chaeyoung and her were moving in together. She wasn’t really surprised. Lisa knew that it was bound to happen anyway, with how smitten they were. So, she congratulated them, and actually planned to help the two with moving in since she was scheduled to go back to Korea for a project bid, but she wasn’t able to make it. Her uncle had a stroke. She had to shoulder all of his responsibilities while he was recuperating and went through therapy. She settled in sending the couple a moving-in gift, after that she and Jisoo completely lost touch for years.

But their friendship never really ended. It was strongly proven, when she got back in town and she thought of calling Jisoo in the hopes of reconnecting. And they got together just like that. It’s as if they never stopped talking. And she promised the couple that she will stay in touch this time around, and she did. From time to time, she’d visit the two whenever she was in the country for business.
