Nathan’s POV
What have I done? I’ve just ruined everything again. I was supposed to be trying to win Renee back, but instead I’ve just given here all the reasons she needs to never take me back.
As I make my way back to Max’s house, I suddenly have a brain wave. If I beg Renee for forgiveness, but leave out the part about Rheanna, then she’s sure to take me back. She knows how much she means to me and us being apart is killing me, besides, this is her fault. If she hadn’t pushed me away, I wouldn’t have felt the need to go and see Rheanna and even sleep with her. She pushed me to it.
As soon as I reach Max’s house, I divert away from his house and head to my car and I quickly make my way back to mine and Renee’s house. I don’t really understand how she could kick me out in the first place, I mean it’s not like it’s her house. But I suppose she did need somewhere for Lucy to live.
When I finally arrive home, I park my car in the drive and then I make my way up to the house. I knock on the door and before I know it, I find Renee standing in front of me, with a frown on her face. As soon as her eyes connect with mine, the frown soon changes into a smile. I can see that she’s trying her hardest to hide it, but it’s not working. She’s always been bad at hiding her true feelings.
“What are you doing here Nathan?” she asks, trying to sound angry.
“Look, Renee, can’t we just work things out. You know I love you. You’re the only person I can ever see myself with” I tell her, with a smile on my face.
“Don’t lie to me” she says, as she looks away.
“I’m not lying. Ever since you kicked me out the other day, I haven’t stopped thinking about you. You know I would never do anything to hurt you. I just want us to be a family again. Please?” I ask her, trying to do my best puppy dog eyes.
“Oh, how can I stay mad at you?” she says, as she lets the smile break through.
“So, does that mean I can come back home?” I ask her, with an even bigger smile on my face.
“Of course” she smiles, as she moves out the way of the door, so I can enter. I quickly wipe my shoes on the mat, before walking in. “But Nathan” she says, as she shuts the door behind me.
“Yes?” I ask.
“This is your last chance, I hope you know that” she tells me, before walking off into the living room.
“I know” I agree, suddenly remembering what happened last night. She’s serious this time, I can tell. She can never find out about me and Rheanna or it’ll be over for sure.
Tom’s POV
*The next day*
My eyes slowly flutter open, as I hear the clanking of locks. As I look around the room, I notice a woman walking into my room with a plate of food. She puts it down on the table, before leaving again and locking the door behind her. Peter was right, this place is better than the police station.
I slowly climb out of bed and make my way towards the food. Just above the table is a calendar. I reach up and pull of yesterday’s date, so I can see today’s. Underneath the date it says “Trial” in big red letters. Great. That means I can finally go home tonight. I’ve missed Maria so much and even if she doesn’t take me back, just knowing that I will be able to see her face again is enough.
I pick the plate of food up and I make my way back to my bed, where I sit down and begin to eat it. I have to say, I’m pretty nervous for today, I mean what if the judge makes a mistake and thinks I’m guilty? I mean that stuff does happen, doesn’t it? You hear those stories on the news about people getting let out of prison after like ten years because they made a mistake. I can’t let that be me. I have to get through this, if not for me then for her.
When I’ve finally finished eating the food, I take it back over to the table and I put it down, before turning on the TV. I can’t believe they have TV’s here, but I guess we haven’t been told we’re guilty, so they can’t treat us like we are. However there is only three channels, so it’s not the best, but it’s better than nothing.
At that moment the door opens again and before I know it, Peter is standing in front of my holding a suit. “Here put this on” he says, as he hands it to. I hold it in front of me, wondering whether it’s the right size or not, but before I can even ask, Peter’s gone.
I quickly throw the suit on and then I walk over to the mirror to examine myself. It fits alright, but I look like I’m going to a funeral, which is ironic really. I brush my hair out of my face and soon enough the door opens again. “So are you ready for the trial?”Peter asks me, as he walks in again. A guard also enters and then closes the door behind him. He stands in front of it, as me and Peter begin to talk.
“Not really, but it’s not like I have a choice in all of this” I tell him.
“I suppose not” he says. “Anyway, there’s a good chance that you’ll be found innocent and all of this will be forgotten”
“A good chance? Not 100% then” I ask, knowing that even he is starting to lose confidence.
“Don’t worry, it’s going to be alright” he says, trying to reassure me, but it’s not really working.
