A Bright Future 𓅊

I remember being in so much pain. The pain of hunger as well as the pain of bruises. I need to eat! I haven't had anything to eat in the past three days. I made my starving, staggering walk slowly to the corner. I remember those faces that walked on by. They looked at me as if I was some slimy slithering scum. Some with their pompous noses in the air.

I had no choice but to steal some food. As the owner of the fruit stand was distracted, I snuck an apple from him and ran. He saw me and yelled for the cops. Then I ran through the city, zigzaging as much as I possibly could in order to escape the law, but they were too much.

I was apprehended. The two cops pinned me down, each taking his turn beating me. The next thing I knew, I was in jail. "This," I thought, "is it! I start my life as a hardened criminal." A living Hell was to begin.
...well...
I couldn't be happier to be wrong.

"Jonny Chernoble!" A stern, stout man, six feet tall stated.
I replied, "That's me!"
I did not know what he wanted from me. I didn't do anything to cause issues. The guard finished, "You're free to go!"

"Free to go???" I asked in astonishment.

"Yeah, you're free to go unless you want to rot in jail for the rest of your life!"
I obviously didn't want that.
I WAS FREE!
"Wait, how am I free?" I thought in my mind. "I DID break the law! So why AM I Scott free? Whoever Scott is?" I asked the guard, and he told me someone wanted to see me.

Before they let me leave, they took me to a small gray room with only two narrow windows, one for each door. The room was dimly lit by an overhead lantern, and the only other things in the room were a small square table and two small metal stools.

As I patiently waited, thoughts flooded my head:
"Who is the person wanting to see me?"
"Why did he free me?"
"Can I trust him?"
"What if he wanted to harm me?"

All possibilities rush my head endlessly, think this, and that. These thoughts, growing ever darker, flowed until they ceaslessly ceased!

"Chi-chiggle Chiggle Chiggle!" The doorknob sounded as a mysterious man came forth. "Good evening!" The man said in a high-class British accent.

"Hello!" I said while pondering my situation. He continued to say, "Have you ever been to London, my boy?" I answered with a puzzled look on my face, "No, I've never even been outside of New York City, let alone outside the United States!" Out of all the things the mysterious man would say, that I didn't expect.

"I guess that answers my next question, about Egypt-"
"EGYPT!" I said.
"Oh, where is my manners. I'm Professor David Banshee of the Egyptology Department at London University!" The proud but not too proud professor said as he held out his hand for a welcoming handshake. "Jonny Chernoble." I said semi-timidly. "Jonny, eh!" Now he Canadian (with the "eh" part). I was not sure what was to come next, for all the scenarios in my head, this was none of them.
