LucaThey say everyone has a moment in time when they look back at their lives, you see every choice, emotion, and every moment that led you there. But I don't understand that. I don't get the luxury of seeing how I got here, or a moment of peace before the storm hits.
All I know is the feeling of falling apart.
I've been in this apartment for years, a prison of my own volition, never letting a soul get close to me. It's easier for me— to be ready to leave, ready to run. That is why my apartment is so bare and the only things I own could fit in that small bag. There's no softness, no warmth here, only the cold edges I deserve. It's perfect. A life by design.
Then something changed. A knock at my door, and a sound that changes everything.
I open it to find a girl standing in the hallway. Her arms tucked to her sides, her hair a mess around her face. She's wrapped in a thin coat that looks like it can hardly stand the chill, bouncing on her bare feet, shivering.
Her lip twitched into a hesitant smile, one she forced to hide her frustration.
"Hi, um... I locked myself out of my apartment," she says, her gaze fixed behind me.
