The rain was falling against the window as Aiden pulled ingredients from the cupboard, lining them up on the counter. Flour, Eggs, Sugar, Vanilla… it was all there. His boyfriend, James, leaned against the counter, watching him with a mix of excitement and curiosity.
“So… remind me again what we’re baking?” James asked curiously
Aiden grinned. “We’re making classics yet scrumptious chocolate chip cookies. Trust me, these things are legendary.” He handed James an apron, they both wore matching aprons, James' had the word "spicy" in it while Aiden's had the word "Sweet" in it
James laughed as he tied it on, admiring himself with Pride in the apron. "I'm ready to conquer the kitchen" he said.
"Sure, only if I'm with you, Remember the Shrimp fried rice incident?" Aiden Teased back
James laughed and was a bit embarrassed "I know baby, I know cooking isn't my forte, thank god I have you, my sweet Angel"
Aiden grinned when James called him his sweet angel "Cooking may not be your strength, but your nicknames are always on top. Alright, let's start shall we ? Step one: flour. Grab a cup and scoop it in"
James grabbed the measuring cup, dipping it into the flour with a bit too much enthusiasm I fear. A small cloud of flour Whiffed up, landing all over him... and the poor Aiden.
Aiden got caught up by surprise yet burst out laughing as James shook flour off his hands, managing to cover his face in it too for some reasons "My god! didn’t realize baking could be so... explosive, I'm definitely far from my Influencer universe" James said, grinning.
With the flour finally measured and added to the bowl, they moved on to the sugar, butter, and eggs. Aiden patiently showed James how to crack the eggs, but James managed to get a bit of shell in the bowl.
"Oh shit!" he said, fishing it out with his fingers "Hey, what matters is participating, right?"
Aiden chuckled, giving him a little cute punch which is more of a sign of affection "That’s what they say, but I think I’ll be in charge of the eggs from now on"
As they continued mixing, Aiden took James’ hand, guiding him as they folded in the chocolate chips. “The secret is not to overmix, Otherwise we might end up with lumps in the dough” he said, his voice softening as he looked at James. “You want the dough to stay fluffy and light.”
James watched him, he was so captivated by Aiden's explanations "You make this look so easy Aiden-baby" he replied
"Maybe, but it’s better with you helping," Aiden replied with a smile.
They finally scooped the dough onto the baking sheet, sliding it into the oven and setting the timer. As they waited, they leaned against the counter, watching the rain and enjoying the warm smell of chocolate slowly filling the kitchen.
To avoid boredom, they went to the living room in their couch to cuddle and warm themselves for a bit
"I must say, I'm very impressed by our diligence, at least you didn't blow up the kitchen like last time, hope all of that
hard work paid off" Aiden saidJames replied "I know baby, You don't have to remind me about it, and I hope our cookies are as sweet as you my sunshine"
Aiden blushed and smiled "Aww, babe"
When the timer beeped, they both ran to the kitchen to open the oven. The cookies were golden and just slightly crisp around the edges with some chocolate peeking through, it still looked delicious though
"Perfect" Aiden said proudly, taking them out to cool "Let's wait until they cool down, then we can try them"
James who was clearly impatient and didn't want to wait picked up a cookie and took a bite out of it. The warmth of the melted chocolate and the sweetness of the dough made him close his eyes, savoring it.
"Okay, first of all, these are so hot, and second, you weren’t lying, these really are legendary" James exclaimed
Aiden took a bite himself after they cooled down for a bit, nodding in agreement. "I told you to wait until they cool down, but these are succulent" He reached out, wiping a some floor that was still left on James’s cheek "Even if it got a little messy I fear"
James laughed, taking his hand and pulling him in for a warm, flour-dusted hug "Let’s just say the mess was as funny as the baking"
They stood there in each other’s arms, the rain still falling on the window, the warm cookies between them, and a memory they both knew they’d be coming back to for years to come.
