Aiden's POV
I waited for Patrick at the port for an eternity, but that drunkard didn't show up.
I didn't understand what he was planning, that piece of crap. For him, I left all my duties for the night. And he... anyways.
I was approaching the porch of Haeun's mansion when I noticed a black sedan parked there. So I breaked.
Due to the headlights of the car, I saw Yunha throwing a body in the car's trunk.
So I just hurried out of the car when Yunha shut the trunk and turned back to meet me, 'What's going on here?' I questioned in confusion.
'You should see for yourself.'
Yunha walked to the back seat door of the black car and opened the door.
There, another man lay on the back seat. His hands and legs were tied with a rope.
As I looked at Yunha for an answer, 'They wanted to kill Haeun, so I've just killed one of them, and another one is alive but senseless. We can get some information about Haeun's enemy from him probably,' Yunha explained.
I sighed. I couldn't imagine what could have happened today if Yunha wasn't here. It would have been a disaster.
When Yunha spoke further, 'I've their phones, I'll go through them, and if I find something, I will surely let you know.'
'Yeah,' I nodded, resting my hip.
It seemed like a cyclone had just turned towards some other direction instead of coming towards me. It was a relief.
Yunha got inside the black sedan and drove out of the huge gate of the mansion.
As I ran inside the mansion to see if there was any trace of blood or something, but there was nothing.
As expected, Yunha was a pro. Everything was in its position. Yunha had cleaned everything.
*****
The next day, Haeun had a meeting with the investors for a new project.
Mr. Choi, Yunha, and I were present there in the conference room along with her.
I was standing at a corner and watching others.
When Haeun stood up from her chair and walked to the front, the whole room turned out to be a noisy one.
They were clearly gossiping about Haeun while she stood there silently with her calm, staring at the ground.
I felt anger growing inside me; I felt like beating up all these idiot people in the room. But I had to stand there in silence like a statue or I must stay like a wooden doll.
I fisted my hands which grew tighter as time passed. Mr. Choi and Yunha looked agitated.
Suddenly, Haeun folded her cane calmly and spoke, 'good morning everyone.'
When the room calmed down all of a sudden and looked at Haeun as she continued, 'before we start today's meeting, let me ask you a simple question. Are you afraid of darkness or are you afraid of getting lost in the dark?'
Haeun waited for an answer.
While I was so confused by her question, like why that question all of a sudden.
As I was wondering about it, a middle-aged man stood up and declared, 'Who wouldn't? Most of the people are afraid of darkness.'
Saying this, the man sat back.
When Haeun smiled genuinely and spoke, 'Thank you for the answer. I know you guys were talking about my eyes earlier. You must be considering me as an incapable girl. Even though I can't see, believe me, I am not afraid of darkness or getting lost in the dark as you all. Because, no matter what, day or night, darkness is my best friend. It's always with me. It never scares me. And I won't step back while it's dark. So I think I'm more capable than most of the other people out there. I can lead. But still, if you want to leave, you can. The room door isn't locked.'
The room went surprisingly too silent that if a pin dropped, it would make a good amount of noise.
Everybody stared at Haeun, like they were dumb.
And I couldn't believe that Haeun could say something this cool. For me, she was the coolest right now.
I couldn't believe she was awesome, that I just stared at her in amusement.
My anger vanished when she fought back for herself. And no one dared to leave the room.
Suddenly one of the eldest investors among the crowd raised his hand and exclaimed, 'I am with you, Miss Park. I'm ready to give this meeting a chance.'
'Yes, me too.'
'Right, I'm there too.'
One by one, everyone started to voice their support. They looked excited for what's coming next with Haeun.
When my phone buzzed due to a notification, I fished out my phone from my pants pocket.
It was a message from my man, so I clicked open the inbox. And my eyes grew wider in shock.
The text said, 'Patrick is dead. Yesterday in the afternoon, they found his body. Police are investigating the case.'
Who had killed him?
So this was why Patrick didn't show up last night. But then, who had texted me yesterday?
Was that text only to separate me from Haeun?
Who was it?
Suddenly, the room burst with claps as I looked up to see Haeun bowing to the investors while the investors were clapping and standing up from their chairs.
Haeun looked happy. She was smiling, and surprisingly, her smile made me want to smile too.
I smiled secretly. I was genuinely happy for her.
She deserved it, while my crowded mind calmed down in just a few seconds.
Haeun's smile did have a huge impact on me.
