Kai led Riven and Eugene through the winding halls of the courtesan house, discreetly pointing out a hidden room at the back where they could hide. As they passed through, the bustling atmosphere was filled with music and laughter, and a handful of beautiful fairy courtesans took notice of Riven almost immediately. They fluttered their lashes, tossing flirtatious smiles his way.

One of them, a tall fairy with glittering wings, reached out and took Riven’s hand. “Well, well, aren’t you a strong, handsome wild fairy? We don’t get visitors like you every day.” She gave him an appraising look, her eyes practically sparkling.

Eugene immediately went rigid, jealousy flaring up as he watched more courtesans surround Riven, each vying for his attention. One fairy brushed her fingers over Riven’s shoulder. “Why don’t you stay for a while? You could have any of us…” she purred.

Eugene puffed up, practically bristling. “Hey! Don’t touch him!” he snapped, tugging Riven’s arm free from the fairy’s grip. “He’s with me!”

The courtesans laughed, eyeing Eugene with amused smiles. “Oh, the pretty boy’s got some fire!” one of them teased. “Look, kiddo, no offense, but you’re no match for us,” another added with a smirk. “You better man up if you want to keep a guy like him.”

Eugene’s cheeks flushed red, and he clenched his fists, but before he could say anything else, Riven chuckled, placing a calming hand on Eugene’s shoulder. “Let’s keep moving, okay?”

Eugene glared, grumbling under his breath as he clung possessively to Riven’s arm. “You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?” he muttered.

“Oh, more than you know,” Riven replied with a grin.

Kai, walking ahead, glanced back with a snicker. “Oh, the ‘mighty wild fairy’ with his jealous little prince,” he mocked with a mischievous smile. “Didn’t know I’d be getting dinner and a show!”

Eugene shot him a look, still fuming. “Let’s just get to the room.”

Kai shook his head, still chuckling as he led them onward. “Sure, sure. Just try not to bite anyone’s head off before we get there, little prince,” he teased.

Eugene huffed, clinging to Riven’s arm even tighter as they finally reached the hidden room. Riven, still clearly entertained, whispered, “I didn’t realize you were so possessive.”

Eugene narrowed his eyes. “Only because those fairies don’t know when to back off.”

Riven laughed, ruffling Eugene’s hair as he settled him into the room. “Guess I’ll have to stay close to my fearless protector, then.”

Kai handed both Riven and Eugene fresh clothes—a bit flashy and cheap, but the best he had to help them blend in with the courtesan house crowd. Eugene eyed the garments, a mix of bold colors and frills, and wrinkled his nose in distaste.

“These… are awful,” he muttered, holding up a ruffled shirt with a look of sheer horror. “They’re cheap, and too… fancy. I wouldn’t be caught dead in this!”

Kai crossed his arms with a smirk. “You know, for someone standing here in a torn prison uniform, you’re awfully picky.”

Eugene’s face fell, and he looked down at his tattered clothes, suddenly deflated. “I… I forgot,” he whispered, his voice barely audible. “I’m not a crown prince anymore. Just a nobody now, right?”

Riven saw the hurt flash in Eugene’s eyes, and his heart twisted. He placed a hand on Eugene’s shoulder, looking at him earnestly. “Hey, you’re not a nobody. You’re still you, no matter what anyone says,” he said softly. “Fancy clothes or not, that hasn’t changed.”
