Freen's POV:
I've been trapped in a loveless marriage for two years. It's a business arrangement, a merger of families to secure our wealth and status. Kirk, my husband and business partner, was once a friend, but now we're just two strangers bound together.
Growing up, I never witnessed love between my parents. They were always away on business trips, leaving me to raise myself. I've never understood what love feels like.
Our marriage is a charade. We live separate lives, even occupying different rooms. Kirk's attempts at romance have been met with rejection; I'm not ready. He respects my boundaries, but the tension is palpable.
At breakfast, Kirk tried again.
"Hey, Freen, eat something. You've been skipping meals lately," Kirk said, concern etching his face.
"I'm not hungry, Kirk. And we're running late," I replied, pushing away my plate.
"But, Freen, you need to take care of yourself. You're losing weight," Kirk pressed.
"I said I'm fine, Kirk. Let's go," I insisted, standing up.
Kirk sighed and nodded. "Okay, let's go."
As CEO of Chanmika Industries, I have a responsibility to keep up appearances. Our business deal today is crucial. Kirk's concern about my eating habits is genuine, but I brush it off.
"Come on, Kirk, we're running late," I say, hurrying him out the door.
The ride to the office is silent, like every day. We exchange pleasantries, nothing more.
As we arrived, Kirk spoke up again.
"Freen, I'm worried about you. You seem distant, withdrawn. Is everything okay?"
"I'm fine, Kirk. Just stressed with work," I lied.
Kirk's eyes narrowed, but he dropped it.
I rushed into the meeting room, lost in thought. Will this day ever end?
