There was a golden doodle puppy that lived in a rescue shelter. Her name was Bailey.
The shelter Bailey lives in is in a small town. Everyone knows each other.
One of the shelter workers, Sierra, loves Bailey more than anyone else. Bailey loves her too.
It was a quiet Friday afternoon at the shelter.
"Bailey!" called Sierra, coming over to Bailey's kennel. "It's time for your walk!"
Bailey immediately stood up and wagged her tail. She couldn't hold in her excitement. When Sierra opened the door of Bailey's kennel, Bailey immediately started jumping and pawing excitedly on Sierra's leg.
"Bailey, settle down." Sierra said, picking her up. Bailey started licking Sierra's face. Sierra started laughing. "Bailey! I need to put your leash on."
As Sierra put Bailey's leash on, Bailey could hardly stay still. She loved her daily walks.
Bailey and Sierra walked to the park, which was the main one in town. It even had a dog park.
Bailey and Sierra ran through the park and played fetch.
A family came up to Sierra. There was a mom, a dad, and two kids.
"Hi! I'm Sophia Johnston," said the tall, blonde lady. "This is my husband Cameron. This is my daughter Sage and our son Cole. Cole is 14 and Sage is 9. We just moved here"
"Hi!" Sierra replied, "I'm Sierra Davis.""Hi!" Sage looked excited. "I love your dog, she is so cute! What's her name?"
"Sage, calm down." Cole said, rolling his eyes.
"Thanks, Sage," Sierra replied, "Her name is Bailey, but she actually isn't my dog. She's on of the dogs at the shelter I work at."
"Wow, that sounds like a great job!" Sophia exclaimed. "Are all of the dogs there up for adoption? Because we would love to adopt one of them.""Of course, but there's a few that some of us shelter workers have our eyes on." Sierra said.
Sophia nodded. "Well, we better get going. Nice meeting you Sierra."
"It was nice meeting you, too," Sierra said, "And welcome to town."
"Well that was weird." Sierra said to Bailey as they walked back to the shelter.
"Hey Sierra! And Bailey of course," said Asher Jones, a 21 year old worker (same age as Sierra) said, as Sierra and Bailey walked in.
"Hey Ash." Sierra said dully.
"What's up?" Asher asked, taking off Bailey's leash.
"There's a new family in town, the Johnstons, who I met in the park, and they seemed interested in adopting Bailey."
"Oh yeah, I've met them. Even if they come to adopt Bailey, they'll probably pick someone else, all of the dogs here are great.""Yeah, I agree. But still."
"Sierra, it's fine. You almost have enough money for Bailey, right?"
"Yeah, actually I have enough now, just have to get the papers.""Exactly! You'll have Bailey soon enough, I don't think anyone else is going to take her away from you."
"Thanks Ash." Sierra replied, feeling a little bit better.
