The flowers in the garden were showered with the usual rain of sunshine. all of the sunflowers turned and looked onward towards their master. the bees buzzing from one flower to the next with apparently nothing on their mind except for the acquisition of pollen. The air was filled with the lovely scent of pine and the creek that flows behind the house could be heard.
The world was quiet. and still. all was good and safe. I sat down on the white porch chairs given to me by my mother before me. my bare feet playing with the slits in the porches wood. William's footsteps were coming closer and closer to the door until he could be seen opening the porch door, breaking the silence with its creek. "What are you doing?" He asked and to which I promptly responded to with
"Need I be doing something"
He laughed at my remark knowing full well that my sarcasm was in all good spirits.
"Sit with me please" I raised my hand with the hopes that he would take it, and when he did, I felt my heart flutter with all of the loving familiarity that I have grown to know and love whenever my body is in contact with him. like electricity.
"No, not this time" he smirked, reaching his eyes as it took my hand in a firmer grasp and pulled me from my chair. Wrapping one arm around my waist and the other intertwining his fingers into mine he retorts "dance with me...."
I need only give him a look and he already knows he has won this protest. and so, we dance. We dance even though there is no music. for there is no need. All I need is his arms around mine, his hand on my waist holding me close, letting me know that I am his, and his alone. his hands within my own and his hearts beating in tune with my own. The sun is setting by the time that we retire.
"I love you" he said in a breath
I look up into his beautiful blue eyes, so blue as to rival any summer sky. "I know"
We reply to each other's remarks with smirks and end it with kisses. loving and soft.
"Let's go to bed" he says as he holds me and looks out one more time at the stars that have begun to dance in the sky.
I let out a huge sigh I didn't even know that I was holding, and it feels as though the whole world is set right again. I can breathe. All I said in reply was "yes" and so we went. back into this house that has seen so many memories both good and bad. a house that has grown in and around our meeting, our friendship, our marriage, and now our old age.
And what a blessing it is - to grow old with the one you love
and my dear, I do indeed love him truly.
Goodnight.
