"I think I'll head to class a bit early today," you said, peering out of the library window with a smile. You spotted Hagrid outside, looking especially excited as he darted between his hut and something at the edge of the forest. "Hagrid mentioned he's got something extra special planned—I'll see if he needs any help."
Hagrid looked as though he was wobbling in every direction, his massive hands clutching some sort of food, with Fang eagerly following at his heels. His scraggly beard bounced as he muttered to himself in what looked like an excited rush.
"Fred, you're about to lose your girl to some kind of tap-dancing bird," Lee chuckled, his dreadlocks swaying as he shook his head in mock disappointment. George, seated beside Angelina, snorted and flashed a cheeky grin at you and Fred.
"Ooh, imagine the first dance with a breakdancing toad, Y/N," George added, tapping his chin thoughtfully.
You huffed, grinning widely as you leaned over Fred and pointed your wand at Lee's face.
"Iris nasus," you muttered, and your friends burst into laughter as Lee's nose started flashing all the colours of the rainbow. Fred's arm, which had been draped casually over your shoulders, slipped to your waist as he chuckled.
"Joke's on you, Y/N," Lee said proudly, lifting his chin. "I think this is a fabulous look on me."
"You do look rather dashing—like a very handsome clown," Fred laughed before glancing back at you. You rolled your eyes playfully, folding your arms and leaning a bit more into Fred's side.
"I am not 'Fred's girl,' and you lot know it," you mumbled. Three very unconvinced faces looked back at you, each expression deadpan.
"She's right, lads. Besides, if anyone's going to pull a ballet-dancing unicorn, it's me," Fred said, lifting his free arm in a mock flex.
You shot him a sideways glance, raising an eyebrow. "Right, that's my cue to leave," you sighed, trying to hold back your laughter. Turning back to the group, you added, "See you all down there in ten minutes?"
George nodded, grinning. "Yep, and try not to go off and marry a theatrical creature before we get there. Fred'll be heartbroken."
You narrowed your eyes at him, though Fred's hand gave your waist a gentle squeeze. That wasn't going to convince them. You turned to Fred, who was already watching you, his familiar crooked smile softening his features. Your cheeks warmed slightly as you met his gaze. "I'll see you in a minute. Don't be late; I think Hagrid's been working on this for a while," you said softly.
Fred's grin grew, his thumb brushing your side in a gentle, familiar way. "Of course, love," he winked.
You smiled at him, feeling your heart flutter. Grabbing your brown shoulder bag, you slung it over yourself and scooted out of the chair. Fred's hand lingered a moment longer before he dropped it, giving you an exaggerated pout.
Angelina raised her eyebrows as you headed for the door, your cheeks aching from your grin. "I'm going to pretend I didn't see that!" she called after you. You shrugged playfully before darting out of the library, practically dancing down the stairs.
It was mid-December, two weeks away from the end of term, and the grounds were covered in a light coating of snow. The wind was cool and bitter, gently nibbling at your flushed cheeks as you walked down the path towards Hagrid's hut. You pulled your thick winter robe around you tighter and rubbed your icy hands together. The sky was a light, pretty grey and the sun lazily peaked through, shining down on the glistening frost of the grass. You let out a deep, contented sigh and raised your hand to wave at Hagrid, who'd just wandered out from the Forest.
