Chapter One: The King of Shadows
The air was thick with the smoky haze of burning tobacco, and the low hum of whispered conversations echoed through the large, dimly lit room. The empire was my domain, and nothing moved without my permission. Kolar Gold Fields—the largest gold empire in the world—was a beast I had inherited from my father. A beast I now ruled with an iron fist.
I sat at the head of the table, the scent of whisky sharp in the air as I took another long pull from my glass. The amber liquid burned its way down, but it didn’t quench the fire inside. My empire stretched out before me, vast and untouchable. My family was the most powerful in India—my father had built this empire with his blood and sweat, and now, it was my turn to take it to greater heights. The world knew me as Rocky, the feared ruler of KGF, and there was no one who dared challenge me.
The men around me were nothing more than pawns in my game. Their eyes were downcast, never daring to look me in the eye for too long. Fear. Respect. Those were the only things I commanded. And I knew how to maintain both.
As they spoke, outlining deals and agreements, my thoughts drifted, as they always did, to her.
Reena Desai.
She didn’t know it, but I had been watching her for some time now. Reena, the daughter of Rajendra Desai—one of my most loyal associates. Her family had served mine for years, bound by loyalty and blood. But she… she was different. A beautiful enigma, untouched by the violence that ran through her bloodline. Born in a world of power and brutality, Reena was raised behind the walls of a boarding school, kept out of sight and away from the brutal reality of the KGF empire.
Her beauty was something that haunted me in the quietest moments. She had long, flowing dark hair that framed her delicate face, soft skin that looked like it had never been touched by the harshness of life. Her eyes—those eyes—were deep, dark pools, like endless night. Every time I thought about her, I saw her face, her soft smile that I imagined was only meant for those she loved.
She was innocent, untouched by the darkness of this world. But I would change that.
I had ordered Rajendra to send her away to the boarding school, away from this place. She would be safe there for now, far from the chaos of my empire. But what he didn’t know, what no one knew, was that I did it for a different reason. I couldn’t let her see the violence, the bloodshed just now.
I smiled darkly to myself, watching the men finish their business. They were talking about shipments, about territories, but my mind wasn’t on any of it. My thoughts were consumed by her. Reena.
I needed her.
It wasn’t just her beauty that drew me in—it was her purity. Her innocence. Something that didn’t belong in this world of blood and power. And I would have her. She would belong to me, just as everything in this empire did.
I flicked the ash from my cigarette, the glow of the tip lighting up the room for a brief second. Her face flashed before my eyes again, and my grip tightened on the glass in my hand. I had to have her. There was no room for anyone else in my world.
The men around me could feel the change in the air, the shift in my mood. The atmosphere in the room grew heavier, more oppressive. They knew better than to speak now. I was consumed by my thoughts of Reena—thoughts that I couldn’t shake.
She had no idea what was coming for her. She had no idea how I was already planning for her. How I would make her mine, break her, and mold her into the woman I needed her to be. The women in my family understood their place. They knew their role, and they never questioned it. Reena would learn that, too.
I would make sure of it.
