''I bet my hat that was your sister'' Effie said with a smile, ''Yes and keep the hat its ugly'' Alice remarked sarcastically. Effie's eyes went wide in surprise, usually the tributes were too nervous or upset to speak. ''Okay well lets give a hand to District Twelve's first volunteer'' the crowd just looked up sorrowfully as they put three fingers to they're lips and raised it in the air.

''Now for the boy''  she reached her hand back into the bowl and pulled out another piece of card, ''Peeta Mellark'' she called out. A boy with ashy-blond hair stepped out of the crowd and walked to the stage accompanied by some peacekeepers, once he got to the steps he paused, thinking about how this may be the last look of his district he will ever get.

As he walked up to the stage he looked out at the saddened crowd, although relief could be seen on the people's faces if you looked closer you could see the twinge of guilt and misery which haunted the eyes of everybody. The thought that this may be the last look anybody would get of the two chosen tributes, the truth was not many tributes from District 12 would successfully come home as a victor as it was the poorest  district and the only fighting the people needed to worry about was fighting to survive.

Peeta walked onto the stage, tears threatening to fall from his eyes as stood on the other side of Effie ''Well shake hands you two'' she told Alice and Peeta, the awkwardly stared at each other as they're hands made the contact. ''Lets give it up for the two victors representing District 12'' she smiled as sorrowful faces stared back at her.

Effie ushers them into the open doors behind them and then they were both separated into different rooms, Alice looked around confused but soon after the door re-opened and the blonde haired girl ran in. ''Alice! Alice!'' Prim shouted and Alice spun around as she ran into her arms. ''Alice why?'' she cried, ''Prim! Prim! look at me okay. Hey im going to be fine alright'' Alice reassured her, ''Try to win okay?'' Prim sniffled and she reluctantly broke away from Alice's grip. ''I'll try'' she said, a look of misery was in her eyes. Alice turned around and walked towards the older looking blond woman in the room, ''You can't leave not this time, not like when dad died'' she stared into the her eyes. The older woman put her arms around Alice and pulled her into a loose hug, ''It will be okay mom, i promise'' she stated fighting the urge to burst into tears.

She couldn't show emotion, emotion could get you killed. ''Okay times up'' one of the peacekeepers said as 2 came into the room pulling Prim and her mom away from Alice, ''Alice! Alice! Don't Die'' Prim screamed as she was dragged away. ''It will be okay'' Alice promised as the door slammed shut. Alice sighed as she walked towards the door and opened it slowly to see none other than her best friend Gale Hawthorne, ''You can win! your good with knives, your good with a bow and arrow you can win i know it'' he said sounding stressed that he may never see his best friend ever again. ''I'll try'' she said putting her arms around him, pulling him into a hug. ''You'll be okay its just like hunting'' he assured her. ''I hunt animals-'' she cut herself off thinking about horror of what she'll have to do, ''It's all the same'' he replied with a hint of worry in his voice.

''Okay'' she said into his shoulder, tears now falling down her face. A peacekeeper came in and pulled him away, ''You can win'' he said making eye contact with her one last time. Alice looked around panicked, she would have to kill the thought haunted her as she paced around the room. 2 peacekeepers enter the room and she turned around fear taking over her face, ''Alice Everdeen please come with us'' one of them said, eyes boring into hers. Alice followed them out until they reach a crowd, the peacekeepers push through the crowd to reveal a car. They usher her in and she sees none other than Effie Trinket sat there, ''Hello dear'' she spoke in her unusually posh voice.

''Hi'' she mumbled and looked down at the car floor and suddenly the other side of the car door opened and Peeta Mellark sits down nervously on the other side of Effie. The car engine starts and it startles both tributes ''Now you're in for a treat-'' Effie's voice drowns out of Alice's head as she starts thinking about what she has to do. You're going to have to kill people, no children. I'm going to become a murderer. She fumbled with her fingers as she looked out the window, take it in Alice... your never going to see it again.

Suddenly the car stops, Alice looks out of the window to see they have arrived at the train station. Fuck im never going to see them again. Gale, Prim even mom. I didn't say goodbye. She could feel tears welling up in her eyes but she held them back, she wanted to seem strong even if she was breaking on the inside. They got out of the car and walked to the platform, the train door were open and her and Peeta followed Effie on board, ''Take it all in. For the next few days you are to be bathed in the Capitol riches'' Effie smiled again. The train doors close and it starts to move, ''you two sit down im going to find Haymitch, probably in the bar cart'' she stated slightly huffing as she walks past them and out the door.

''Have you met him?'' Peeta asked Alice, ''Who?'' she asked back. ''Haymitch'' Peeta stated, ''No i haven't i've heard of him though, you a big fan?'' she replied. Peeta doesn't reply and a man with scraggly blond hair stumbles in, ''Well hello'' he states.
