King Triphus was a calm man, he never raised his voice unless needed but he also never smiled. None of his servants, the royale guard, and any of the other neighboring kingdoms' royalty had ever seen him crack a smile. He was lonely after his wife Queen Ophelia had died, She was his world and the only thing that could make him smile once upon a time. They had met as kids, and had been told they would wed once they were old enough. As children they didn't want anything to do with each other, but as they got older they started to enjoy each other's company and even grew feelings.
When Triphus was 18 he had proposed to the then princess Ophelia, thus connecting the two kingdoms in matrimony and spreading peace among the countries. However years later when the Queen had become sick with an illness that the healers had never seen before she had passed a very painful death. He had never fully recovered from his beloved wife's death, He and his wife had always wanted a little of their own but never got the chance.
His kingdoms had many of caregivers and littles, so much so that it was openly welcomed and encouraged. After much research he had signed up at multiple little adoption centers, he went to every event they had regarding meeting new littles but never felt connected to any of them. That is until he met little Tallulah.
She stood shyly in the corner holding onto her little stuffed bear for dear life, she seemed uninterested in talking with any of the other littles. Some caregivers had tried to talk to her but when she just looked at them and didn't answer they up and walked away. One of the carers at the center said that she was new, only just got there a couple days before. " She hasn't said a word since she got here. The poor thing is terrified of everyone. " He decided he would try his luck with her, as she had peeked his interest as a potential little.
Walking calmly and collectively he'd used the least intimidating voice as he kneeled down he said, " Hey there little one. I'm Triphus, What's your name? " She seemed hesitant before she responded in barely a whisper " Talullah.. " His face softened as he said " What a pretty name. " She smiled and blushed at the compliment. He saw her watching the other littles run around and asked. " You don't want to play with the others? ".
She simply shook her head no " Why not? " " I'm too small to play with them " His brows furrowed in confusion " Who says? " She seemed to open up a bit, moving a bit from her hiding place behind her stuffed friend. " You wanna play with something? " She looks around scanning the room before her eyes land on a pile of wooden blocks. " C'mon let's go play " He says holding out a hand to her, She takes it softly in her small hand as they both get up walking towards the blocks.
She started grabbing some to make a tower, He handed her a block and she wearily took it from his hand and added it to her ever-growing tower. Eventually she got comfortable with his presence and him handing her blocks and she even started giggling and having fun with him. Although this didn't last long before it was time for the caregivers to leave as it was time for the littles to wind down for bed.
Triphus didn't want to leave little tallulah as he had just met her and wanted to get to know her better, but he knew he had no choice. He was king but even he had to follow the rules of the adoption center. Just as he was going to get up and follow the rest of the caregivers out to the front he was stopped by a little hand grabbing onto his pants. " D-Don't go.. Peas.. " Her little brown eyes looked up at him full of tears, and he felt his cold heart start to thaw.
He bent town and pet her hair smiling as he said " I'll be back little one, trust me. " She didn't seem fully convinced as she said " Pinky pomis'? " while holding her pinky finger out. " Pinky promise " he replied wrapping his pinky around her small one and connecting their thumbs to ' lock the promise '. She finally let go of his pants as she watched him walk out of the room and to the front with the other caregivers.
Walking out of the room he heard whispers from his subjects, " Is he smiling? I never thought he could do that! He's not so scary when he's smiling. " His face went back to it's usual cold expression as he walked up to the front desk. " One second, " the secretary said holding up a finger before she looked up. " Oh my gosh! Your highness. " she stood up and bowed " I-I'm so sorry! I didn't know it was you! " she stammered out. " It's fine. " He said before continuing " I'd like to adopt a little, that just recently came into your care. " She looked relieved that he didn't mind her rudeness as she started typing " Yes? And the first name " .
" Talullah. " She stopped typing for a minute looking up at him, " Are you sure about that, your highness? She's a bit closed off. " He simply nodded. " Yes I'm quite sure. " he replied as she continued typing away. " Well She is one of our younger littles, the carer's guess that her little age is around 0 - 2. " He was a bit worried about that as he had never taken care of a baby before, but how hard could it be?
" As you know you need to have two more meetings in our center with the little before we can begin the process of adoption as well as spending a week together before officially moving her in with you. And You'll need to fill out these papers and hand them back to us on your next visit. " He scanned over the papers she had just given him before saying " Thank you very much. " and walking out the doors to his car out front.
