Staffers walk through the plethora of hallways, the sounds of soles and heels making contact with the floor fill the air. My heels add to the music of the government working as I follow the Vice President's assistant to Kamala Harris' office, where she's waiting for me. Never in my life would I think that I would meet the President and Vice President or even think that they would be the ones asking to meet me.
We stop in the office area just outside of Kamala's so that I can get a clip-on microphone put onto my blazer. I know I shouldn't be nervous, but I'm literally meeting the two leaders of the Free World. Who the fuck in their right mind would not be nervous? It's not like I don't know what I'm going to say; they've must have seen how prevalent my presence is amongst the younger generations of Americans. Plus, they've most likely heard about the charity concert set for tomorrow considering that's what I'm going to talk about with President Biden and Madame Vice President Harris.
"You're all set! Now, let's get you to Madame Vice President." Opal, Harris' personal aide, says. I nod with a smile as I follow her into the office where the woman of the hour awaits me.
"Corina Castro!" Kamala Harris says, stretching her hand out to shake mine, "Thank you for meeting me-- it's an honor!"
My heart flutters a bit upon my hand making contact with hers, "Oh, please-- the honor is truly all mine, Madame Vice President."
"Oh, no need to be formal-- please call me Kamala."
I nod at the change of formality, only adding to my growing nervousness. Without room for even more awkwardness from my part, Kamala quickly delves into the topic at hand. She starts to thank me for using my grand platform to speak about taboo topics, making me smile and wash the nerves off of my body.
"Both of my careers give me a platform that not only reaches the demographics of teenagers and young adults, but it transcends to other age groups. With the influence that I do have-- I have the opportunity to use it for the better." I say, my words clearly getting across perfectly to Kamala. A smile draws warmth to her face, making me reciprocate the smile.
"And it truly warms my heart that you put together a concert for different causes and charities-- it's not everyday that you see somebody your age with as much influence that you have who is willing to use their own money and time to put something this big for good."
I smile, giving a little shrug, "It's truly the least I can do. I have the money and influence, why not use it for good?"
We use the rest of the set camera time before the filming crew calls "cut". Kamala gives me a hug after we take the microphones off, giving me another moment of nervousness. If I'm going to be very honest, she is my biggest "hear me out". Not only is she insanely intelligent, she's fucking gorgeous. The videos and pictures truly do not compare to her beauty in the flesh.
"It was amazing speaking with you-- I can't wait to watch your concert tomorrow." she says then chuckles at the clear shock on my face, "Meena didn't tell you?"
I shake my head with a smile. I'm friends with her niece, Meena, who in fact did not tell me that her aunt was joining her tomorrow, "She didn't, actually..."
"Oh, well-- you can give her an earful later." she lets out through chuckles.
"I will-- it was an honor to meet and speak with you." I say, putting myself back into professional mode.
"Likewise, Corina. Something tells me that today and tomorrow won't be the last time we meet."
"Then, I can't wait. I'll see you tomorrow!" I say and she nods before giving me a little farewell hug.
I follow Opal out of her office then she walks me out of the building where my ride awaits me. Security is pushing back the crowds of fans who came in droves to see me, shocking Kamala as she watches me get into the car. As she watches the SUV take me away to bring me to the official entrance of the White House, she also watches how fans practically chase after the vehicle.
