Together Until The End

"How is he?"

"He's perfect.." I smile as Nathan pulls on his tie one morning.. he's going back to work today for the first time since we brought Jacob home.. we decided to go with Lucas because.. well he looked like one.. and none of the names we liked suited him..

"You'll be ok?"

"Yeah.. I think so.. I have this little one to keep my company now.." I cradle my son in my arms smiling down at him.. Nathan comes over to me after sorting his collar out.. his hand carefully stroked Lucas' hair.. surprisingly he has a lot of it.. I guess he gets that from Nathan's side because I definitely didn't have hair when I was a baby..

"You'll call me if he's too much? I can be straight home if you need me.."

"We'll be fine.. I promise.. now.. do you want some cuddles before you go?" I ask.. and he looks down to the baby before holding his arms out..

"Obviously.. i want cuddles.." he holds the baby in his arms and it's the cutest thing I swear.. I take my phone out and quickly snap a photo of them.. first day back to work and all that..

"He's starting to look like you.." I say.. looking down at Lucas as he looks around with the same big brown eyes as his father.. "Those eyes.."

"You think?"

"Mhm.. maybe we should have named him Junior.."

"He suits Lucas more.. and it's cute.."

"That's true.." I smile just before Nathan reaches over and places a kiss on my lips.. "Mmm.. what was that for?"

"You.. being a mom.. it suits you.. and you're happy.. all this positivity.. I love it.. and I love you.."

"I love you too.. we both do.." I rest my head on his shoulder admiring our son.. something we're gonna struggle to do now he's going back to work.. I guess my happiness is because he's been here for about 10 days.. it's been bliss.

"Listen.. I better go.. don't wanna be late on my first day back.."

"Okay.. give him here.." I smile taking the baby back in my arms.. "I've got the nurse coming to check on him today.. but I might take him for a walk later.."

"Will you let me know how he is? I know they said he was an ok weight to leave the hospital even though he was early but I'm still worried.."

"I'm sure it'll be fine.. he's drinking plenty.. he seems content enough.."

"Good.. god I'm gonna miss you both so much.. what am I gonna do without you?"

"You'll be fine once you get there.. and you're stuck with loads of marking to do.."

"Oh the joys.. the bliss of working in a school.. huh.."

"Absolutely.. I don't miss it at all.." that would have been a lie a few weeks ago but now.. I've got my baby boy.. and I'm happy.. it's all I need to feel good..

"You don't miss me?" He gives me a pet lip..

"Of course I miss you.." I smirk.. "I just don't miss working.."

"Mhm.. well I've gotta go.." he gives me a quick kiss to the lips before leaning down to place a kiss to Lucas head.. "Love you both!" He grabs his briefcase before heading out the door.. and now it's just me and the baby..

I send plenty of pictures to Nathan of Lucas.. basically doing nothing but looking cute in his little outfit..

Katie- Here's your son with that teddy bear you got him.. x

Nathan- oh my god.. that is so adorable

Nathan- I miss you both :(

Katie- we miss you too..
