Chapter 66: You Must Have Picked Up Yi Mo
In the car, Song Yi Mo inhaled the faint scent of leather, glancing around with curiosity. “Is this a new car?”
“Yeah, I had a friend in Mang City help me buy it. It’ll be convenient to have a car here in the future,” replied Zhai Mu Yang.
Song Yi Mo nodded slightly, not wanting to say much more.
The car first headed towards the Miao family home.
Miao Zhiruo, feeling a bit timid in front of Zhai Mu Yang, whispered to Yi Mo while he was still parking, “Is Zhai Dage coming to my house? I wonder if my dad is home today.”
“Of course, we should meet the elders first,” Yi Mo thought to herself, anticipating that the two would discuss their trip to Y City. She had already informed her brother that Miao Dad would be joining them.
“Then I’ll go check if my dad is home first,” Miao Zhiruo said.
Just then, Zhai Mu Yang approached with a gift box in hand and asked, glancing in the direction Miao Zhi Ruo had hurried off, “Why’s she in such a rush?”
“Miao Dad has been out a lot lately; I’m not sure if he’s home right now, so she wanted to check,” Yi Mo explained.
Zhai Mu Yang chuckled, noticing her still carrying her backpack. He stepped forward to take it from her. “It’s too heavy to be running around with. Let me put it in the car.”
As they walked back, Yi Mo asked, “Dage, are we leaving tomorrow?”
“Early to go, early to return.” Zhai Mu Yang’s expression darkened slightly at the mention of the trip. After consulting experts on the matter, he had learned the ins and outs and regretted it deeply.Had he known earlier, he would never have allowed Yi Mo to make such a decision—to risk so much for someone who had wronged her was simply not worth it.
Yet, since Yi Mo had made her choice, he felt he could not stop her, but that didn't mean he would remain idle.
The door to the Miao house stood ajar, and Miao Zhiruo peeked out, spotting them and rushing over. “Yi Mo, Zhai Dage, my parents are home!”
He Yi stepped out as well. “Mu Yang’s here! Come in quickly; it’s chilly and damp out today.”
“The weather in S City is similar; I’m used to it now. How’s Auntie’s health?” Yi Mo inquired.
“Good, everyone at home is well.” He Yi stepped back to let them in, gently touching Yi Mo’s hand. “Ah, not cold at all.”
Zhai Mu Yang placed the gift box on the table. “Uncle Miao.”
Miao Jun, standing by the sofa, nodded in acknowledgment. “You’re here.”
He Yi brought in some tea, and Miao Jun said, “Yi Mo, why don’t you and Zhi Ruo go play in the other room?”
Miao Zhiruo glanced around at the adults, understanding the unspoken dynamics, and took Yi Mo back into the house.
He Yi followed with a plate of fruits, shortly after emerging to close the door behind her.
Sipping his tea, Zhai Mu Yang looked up. “Uncle Miao, I plan to set off tomorrow. If you have other matters to attend to, it’s fine; I’ll take good care of Yi Mo.”
Miao Jun shook his head. “I can’t skip this. You’re all younger generations; no matter how much blame falls on Song Yi, she is still Yi Mo’s mother. That alone gives her power over Yi Mo. Since you’ve acknowledged Yi Mo as your sister and regard Aunt Song as your elder, you hold a lower status than Song Yi. You must tread carefully in your words and actions.”
