Here I am, in a stranger's white Porsche Macan and being driven by the chauffeur in this foreign city, the city of Cape Town. I peaked through the window throughout the ride, I had no idea Africa have places this beautiful.
I didn't know where I was going but what I did know was that I had landed in such a beautiful city, I just fell in love with the vine yards, the houses in the hills and everything else.
"So mom, where are we going?" I ask, letting my curiosity take over me. I was getting too anxious about being driven to a place I was not aware of. What if I was getting kidnapped? - okay that was stupid because I was literally traveling with my mom.
"We are going to Mr Finn's house and we'll stay there for quite some time until we find a place of our own," Mom states, like she was talking to some little girl - she saw me as a little girl. That was very insane, I mean, I've just turned 16 this February. So I was definitely not a little girl.
"Mr Finn is quite a generous man. He is a tall man, in his mid 40's and wears very expensively like he owns the whole country. He is the one helping your mom open her third hotel here in Cape Town," Vivian says, giving me his description and talking like she knows him. I mean they, maybe, met a quite a few times.
I turned on my phone, the time was 16 : 35, the time back in my city was 14 : 35. That's why we need smart phones, to update the time zone of your location everytime. I had to admit, this was a bit exciting and kinda scary to start all over again. But 'all over' is an exaggeration to me because it's not like I was super popular at school or I was loved by everyone and the teachers knew my name. I didn't even have what I call 'my best friend'. I had less than 2.0 GPa. I was just that one invisible girl, even the bullies did not know me, that's how invisible I was in Manchester.
Then, the chauffeur (Mr Smith) hit the breaks and the car suddenly came to a stop. I picked through the window again and we were in front of this huge mansion, quite better like ours in Manchester but it was nothing I haven't seen before.
I got out of the car abd stood next to mom. "Beautiful," I comment with an approving smile.
Then came a tall man, with perfect black hair mixed with strapes of white hair, broad shoulders and a trim physique. He was wearing an expensive-looking brown suit, with shoes nicely polished and a golden watch fixed on his wrist. A young-looking blonde was beside him as he approached us, maybe that was his assistant.
That was the Mr Finn I've heard so much about except he did not look like a 'nice' man, his dark brown eyes that were almost black, perfect jawline on his face and all of it, it made him look like a ruthless man. Gosh, I was judging a book by its cover.
"Finally," he exclaims, his lips forming a smile and he looked less terrifying. "Charlotte," he hugs my mom then Vivian before turning his full attention to me. Of course, I was a stranger to him.
"Samuel, meet my daughter Brittney," Mom says introducing me to him and I already had a smile on my face, with my hand moving foward for a handshake.
"My dear, you do look like your mother," he says before pulling me into a hug. Hmm, such a strong nice cologne he had.
"Nice to meet you, Samuel," I say and I could see the indifference on his face after I said that. Then mom and him burst out laughing but the awkwardness was surrounding the atmosphere.
"It's Mr Finn, my dear," Mom corrects.
Oh shit.
"It's okay, just call me Uncle Sam. I mean, we will be living together," he says and I smile at him, awkwardly. He then shifts his head to the blonde next to him, "Jennifer, where are they?" he asks to the her whose name is Jennifer, I might add.
"They--" Jennifer didn't even ger to finish her sentence before she was brutally interrupted.
"Hi! So nice to finally meet you guys! I'm Holly and no, my full name is not Hollywood. You know people like to get confused, so hi," she says and one thing I noticed about this girl with an average height and black hair with pink highlights, along with dark brown eyes - was that she was a fast and a big talker. I lost count of her words.
"Hi," I respond with just that and then shook her hand.
"Aunty Charl and Vivy, nice to meet you again guys but I won't hug you. Just kidding," she says and then hugs them both. Gosh she couldn't live without saying more than 10 words.
Holly took all my attention and I didn't even notice the tall boy, with the body of a model, with dark brown eyes and black hair, his face showing a clear resemblance of his father. He gave me a smile which was always a smirk before, "Hi," and giving me a hug. That was welcoming.
"Bryce," Mom says and she hugs him and Vivian does as well.
"Where is Connor?" Mr Finn whispers to Jennifer but my ears actually heard him. Jennifer just shrugged her shoulders and Mr Finn just cleared his throat.
Connor? Who was Connor? Probably his child but mom told me that Mr Finn had two children, Holly and Bryce. So, who was Connor?
"I'll do the honors of escorting beloved Brittney to her new glorious bedroom," Holly breaks the comfortable silence in a horrible British accent. She then grabbed me by my wrist and the dragged me all the way to some big beautiful room. I didn't even look around the house with the way she was rushing me, and talking way too fast, I was struggling to keep up.
"Do you like it, ma'am? Would you also like a glass of water?" she asks still in that terrible British accent of hers which made me giggle to myself. "What?"
"Holly, you can talk like a normal person now," I say.
"Oh my gosh thank you very much," she says, a little bit sarcastic but I knew she meant no harm.
I thought I was going to sleep but not, Holly made herself comfortable on my bedroom instead.
"So, how was life in Manchester?" she asks and I sigh and sit down on the bed as well.
God knows how tired I was, the only thing I was wanting more than anything to do was to close my eyes and get some nice sleep. Sure I slept a lot in the plane but no matter how much you pay for the seats in a plane, they could never be comfortable as a bed.
I yawn, "It was nice."
"Argh, you are so boring. Just go to sleep but just know that when you wake up, I'll be throwing questions at you."
Thank God.
