The lights in your living room were dimmed, the soft glow of the TV screen casting flickering shadows on the walls. You and Jeongin were curled up on the couch, a bowl of popcorn resting between you, both ready for a cozy night in. It was supposed to be a relaxed evening—a movie night, just the two of you. But there was one little problem: you had picked a horror movie.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Jeongin asked, his voice laced with a touch of hesitation as he grabbed a handful of popcorn. He glanced nervously at the title screen, and then back at you, trying his best to appear nonchalant.
You chuckled softly, nudging him with your elbow. "It's just a movie, Jeongin. Nothing to worry about."
He made a face, clearly unconvinced. "I don't know... I'm not exactly a fan of scary movies."
"I thought you were a tough guy?" you teased, a playful grin on your face. "You can handle it, right?"
Jeongin puffed out his chest, trying to act confident. "Of course! I'm not scared of anything. Let's do this."
With that, he sank back into the couch, arms crossed over his chest as if he were already preparing for battle. You pressed play, and the eerie music of the horror film started to fill the room.
At first, Jeongin was quiet. He kept his eyes fixed on the screen, but his body was tense, and you could tell he was trying his hardest not to flinch at every ominous sound that played. The movie progressed, each jump scare causing him to jolt slightly, but he was determined to act unfazed.
That was until the first real scare came. A sudden loud noise blared from the TV, followed by an image that made even you jump. You glanced over at Jeongin, expecting him to be laughing it off or joking about how predictable it was.
Instead, he was frozen, wide-eyed, and his grip on the popcorn bowl tightened to the point where you could hear the plastic crinkling. You smirked, trying not to laugh at how he was clearly struggling to keep his cool.
"Jeongin," you teased gently, nudging his side. "You okay over there?"
He shot you a quick, embarrassed glance. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just... just getting into it, you know?"
You raised an eyebrow, not entirely convinced by his response. "Uh-huh, sure. You're not hiding under the blanket or anything, right?"
To your surprise, he didn't respond immediately. You turned your head just in time to see him shift uncomfortably, and then—just as another loud noise rang from the movie—he quickly leaned into you, burying his face into your shoulder.
You laughed softly, surprised at how quickly he had given in. "Jeongin?" you said, amused, but he only clung to you tighter, his grip on your arm now firm and desperate.
"Okay, okay! Maybe I'm a little scared..." he admitted, his voice muffled against your shirt. "But I'm fine. I can handle this."
You smiled fondly, your hand gently rubbing his back as you tried to reassure him. "You're not alone, you know. I'm right here with you."
His response was to let out a quiet sigh of relief, as if hearing that made everything feel a little better. He slowly sat back up, but his arm remained draped around you, as if instinctively pulling closer.
The movie continued, but Jeongin had stopped trying to act brave. Every time the tension built or something scary happened, he would glance at you with wide eyes, as if silently asking for reassurance. And every time, you gave it, offering a small smile or a comforting hand to his.
"Just one more jump scare and I'm outta here," he muttered, and you chuckled at how adorably serious he sounded.
You couldn't help but feel a little protective of him in that moment. The strong, confident Jeongin was now a little vulnerable, leaning into you for comfort—and you were more than happy to give it.
As the movie neared its climax, Jeongin was practically half on top of you, his head buried in the crook of your neck. When the final scare hit, he let out a tiny scream, his fingers digging into your side.
"I can't! I can't do it!" he exclaimed, pulling back slightly but still not letting go. "I'm never watching a scary movie again."
You laughed, rubbing his arm soothingly. "I think I'm going to hold you to that."
Jeongin peeked up at you from the safety of your shoulder, his face flushed from embarrassment but his eyes soft. "You're not mad, right?"
"Mad?" you said, giving him a playful smile. "Why would I be mad? You're adorable when you're scared."
He groaned, clearly mortified, but you could see the faintest smile tugging at his lips. "I wasn't scared," he muttered, though the blush on his face said otherwise.
You leaned in, pressing a quick kiss to the top of his head. "It's okay, Jeongin. I think it's cute how you trust me enough to let your guard down like this."
He froze for a moment, his heart skipping a beat at your words. Slowly, he pulled away, looking up at you with a soft, genuine smile. "Thanks for being here. I feel safe with you."
The sincerity in his voice made your heart flutter, and you gave him a small, affectionate smile. "Anytime, Jeongin. I'll always be here for you."
He leaned into you once more, this time resting his head on your shoulder comfortably, as if all of his nerves had faded away. "Maybe I don't mind scary movies that much, as long as I'm with you."
You chuckled softly, your arm around him pulling him closer. "I'm happy to be your personal shield from now on."
As the movie finally ended and the credits rolled, the room felt calm, even peaceful. Jeongin may have been terrified throughout the film, but in the end, you both found comfort in each other's presence. And that, to him, was more important than anything else.
