Eraser had just been announced as the next to leave TPOT, and Pen felt his heart shatter. It wasn't fair. Blocky hadn't come along with them, Needle had been eliminated after he'd just started getting close to her, and now—Eraser? Out of everyone, why Eraser? Why did everyone he loved and cared about have to leave? Pen didn't want to do this alone; he didn't feel strong enough without them. What was he supposed to do without Eraser? It wouldn't be the same. And with contestants mysteriously disappearing, he couldn't let that happen to Eraser too. He needed him.
As soon as Eraser finished talking with Bottle, Pen rushed over and threw his arms around him, holding him as tightly as he could. Eraser was taken aback; he hadn't expected Pen to hug him like this. Sure, he knew Pen was the sensitive one in their group, but he'd never seen him like this. The heartbreak in Pen's expression cut even deeper than Eraser's own disappointment.
"No! Eraser—I'm sorry, bro! You... Needle, Blocky?! They're all gone. What am I gonna do?" Pen cried, clinging to him as though this might be the last time they'd see each other.
Eraser had never seen Pen this upset before. With a frown, he wrapped his arm around Pen, pulling him closer. Pen seemed to relax slightly, his arm still around Eraser, and they stood there side by side, holding each other for comfort.
Eraser sighed, glancing away. "I really thought I was gonna win this one..." he murmured, feeling a mix of disappointment and guilt. Not only had he let himself down, but now he was leaving Pen behind, alone in the game.
Eraser didn't want Pen to feel like he couldn't do this on his own. He knew Pen was strong and could accomplish anything if he just believed in himself. Pushing his own sadness aside, Eraser focused on being there for Pen, to reassure him that everything would be okay. But before he could, Scissors cut in rudely, interrupting them. Eraser scoffed, rolling his eyes, then took Pen by the hand, leading him away from the group to talk in private.
They stepped outside to a quiet spot by the rundown building. Eraser didn't let go of Pen's hand; instead, he took Pen's other hand in his and looked into his eyes with a gentle gaze. Pen looked like he was on the verge of tears, struggling to believe he could manage on his own.
"Pen... bro, I know it's hard, everyone leaving... but you've still got Liy and Tennis Ball. They're here for you, and you're still in the game. The viewers are keeping you in for a reason—you can do this. You're stronger than you think." Eraser rubbed Pen's hand soothingly, trying to keep him calm. "I believe in you, bro. You've accomplished so much already. Think about when we weren't on a team—you were fine then, and you'll be fine now." Eraser offered a weak smile, hoping Pen would understand.
Pen sniffled, looking down at his hands in Eraser's. His heart raced a little as he looked back up at Eraser, who had always been so kind to him. "But what if I can't... What if I'm not good enough and I let everyone down? I... I'm not as strong as you guys; I like to pretend I am, but I'm not!" he cried.
Eraser shook his head and gently placed a hand on Pen's shoulder, pulling him close. "You are, bro. Look at everything you've done—you're still here after all these years. I'm proud of you. It's tough, but I know you've got this. And even if you don't win, you can say you gave it your best."
Pen sighed. "But... I'll miss you. What will I do without you?" he mumbled quietly.
Eraser smiled. "Come on, bro. You've got Snowball, Tennis Ball, Liy—they're still here. And two of them are even on your team! You'll be fine."
Pen shook his head. "But they're not you. Snowball's always with Grassy, Tennis Ball just talks about Golf Ball, and Liy... she's great, but she's not you. Who's gonna give me 'bro cuddles' on cold nights? Who'll be there when things get too overwhelming? It's always been you, Eraser. Even with the whole gang, it was you. Always you. I... I can't lose you. I'd rather just get out; I can't do this alone..." Pen's voice trembled.
Eraser gripped Pen's shoulders firmly, grounding him. "Bro, listen—it'll be okay. Think about what you could do if you win! Just focus on the game. I believe in you." He leaned a bit closer, resting his hand on Pen's waist.
Pen took a deep breath, realising Eraser was right. He'd made it this far with his own efforts. Eraser had been there for him, but he was the one who'd kept going. He could still keep going.
"Thanks, bro, for believing in me. I don't know what I'd do without you." Pen looked deeply into Eraser's eyes, resting a hand on his chest.
"Of course, bro. I'll always be here for you, cheering you on and believing in you, even if I'm not in the competition. I promise." Eraser turned to fully face Pen, bringing them close—really close. Pen gently rubbed Eraser's chest, and a quiet moment settled between them. They simply looked at each other, taking in this last shared moment, delicate smiles on both their faces. This was truly goodbye, at least for now, until they could meet again. Pen wasn't ready, but he knew he had to be. Eraser wasn't ready either, but he stayed strong, for Pen's sake.
The space between them was barely anything now, and after a long, silent moment of just staring into each other's eyes, Eraser gently pulled Pen closer, leaning in to softly press his lips against Pen's. Pen closed his eyes and leaned in, kissing back tenderly. They shared a gentle kiss, savouring this last moment together, knowing the elimination was almost over and Eraser would be leaving soon—possibly for good. The thought that Eraser might end up missing like others terrified Pen. He would do anything to keep him safe, to keep him here.
The kiss deepened slightly as Pen's hand left Eraser's chest, wrapping around him to pull him closer. Eraser smiled into the kiss, grateful for this final moment together. But their kiss was abruptly interrupted when Liy approached and awkwardly cleared her throat.
Pen pulled back gently, reluctantly stepping away from Eraser but still holding his hand. "I'm going to miss you..." he whispered, his voice filled with emotion, before glancing at Liy, who looked unsure but sympathetic.
"Uh... the elimination is almost done," she said softly.
Pen tightened his arms around Eraser, not wanting to let him go. "Come on, Pen... we have to go," Eraser said gently. As much as he wanted to stay here and hold Pen, time was running out. He reluctantly moved Pen back a little, but with a warm smile, he added, "How about this? Let's take a selfie on your phone. You can set it as your lock screen, and if you're feeling down, you'll remember I'm out there cheering you on."
Pen managed a small smile. "Yeah... yeah, okay." He pulled out his phone, which had a blue case with a Blink-182 logo, and lifted it for a photo. Eraser put his arm around him, and Pen took the picture. As he looked down at the screen, he couldn't help but smile at Eraser's familiar, goofy grin. He loved him so much.
"Come on, let's go." Eraser patted his shoulder, then took his hand to lead him back inside. Pen sighed, but followed, still holding his hand.
Liy watched them both with a soft smile. She knew she'd have to be there for Pen now that Eraser was leaving. She would do her best to support him. As they walked back, she silently promised to help Pen through this.
Poor Pen... he really was going to miss him.
I miss you, miss you
I miss you, miss you
Where are you and I'm so sorry
I cannot sleep, I cannot dream tonight
I need somebody and always
This sick, strange darkness
Comes creeping on so haunting everytime...
