It is often said that the moment we realize our true potential, it's not an instant revelation. Rather, it's a gradual process that unfolds over time. Initially, we might not even notice it, but slowly, piece by piece, we begin to understand just what we are capable of. The realization comes in small increments, like a puzzle that fits together perfectly only when all the pieces are in place. And once you start recognizing your worth and abilities, you begin to see opportunities everywhere—new ways of thinking, new ways of doing things, and new ways of being. This realization is crucial, especially if you have big dreams or ambitions—like creating your own business or developing the next groundbreaking app. If you want to make a real impact in today's world, you need to innovate, expand, and present your ideas in a way that resonates with others. But what does it mean to innovate? What does it take to truly create something new?Innovation is often misunderstood. Many people think that innovation means coming up with something entirely brand new, something that no one has ever thought of before. But that's not always the case. Innovation doesn't always mean starting from scratch. Sometimes, it's about taking something that already exists and making it better—applying a new perspective, a different approach, or a fresh twist. Innovation is about drawing inspiration from the world around you, but using that inspiration in a way that is unique to your vision. And here's the important part: inspiration is not the same as copying. Copying is a shortcut that ultimately leads nowhere—it's the path of least resistance, and it's also fraught with legal and ethical risks, like copyright infringement. If you simply replicate someone else's work without any changes or additions of your own, you're not innovating; you're imitating. And imitation rarely leads to success. On the other hand, if you're inspired by something and then transform it, making it your own, that's where the magic happens.Let me give you an example from my own experience. A few years ago, I was involved in a NASA Mars Space Colonization project. We were tasked with coming up with new technologies and materials that could help support human life on Mars. As part of my research, I watched the movie Mission Mangal—a film about India's Mars mission, which was based on a true story. In the movie, there's a scene where a suit made of "Wolverine cloth" is used, which has the ability to heal itself when damaged. It's an interesting concept, and something about it sparked my imagination.I wasn't interested in simply copying the idea of the cloth. Instead, I thought, "How can I take this concept and apply it to something else, in a completely different context?" After some thought, I realized that the self-healing fabric could be used in a totally new way in the manufacturing industry—specifically, in the production of plastic products. The idea was simple: if plastic can break and crack, why not develop a material that could repair itself automatically, just like the Wolverine cloth in the movie?I pitched this idea to my team, and together we developed a prototype. We used the concept of self-healing fabric, but applied it in a new domain—on the exterior of plastic items. The result? A breakthrough in plastic manufacturing. If a product made from this material were to break or crack, it would repair itself, extending the lifespan of the product and reducing waste. It wasn't an exact replica of what I saw in the movie, but it was a transformation of that idea—an innovation in its own right. And the best part? No copyright infringement. This experience taught me a valuable lesson: true innovation comes from a place of inspiration, not imitation. It requires you to think outside the box, to take something existing and mold it into something new. That's how real change happens in the world—by expanding on existing ideas, improving upon them, and thinking creatively. But here's something else I learned: if you want to innovate, you need to be in the right mental state. Innovation isn't just about intellect or technical knowledge—it's about creativity, imagination, and clarity of thought. And to think clearly, you need to maintain good mental health. When our minds are cluttered with stress, anxiety, or negativity, it becomes difficult to come up with new ideas or find solutions to complex problems. Mental health plays a huge role in the creative process. You need to stabilize your mind, create a sense of balance, and put yourself in a space where you can think freely and creatively. This brings us to an important point: mental health is often overlooked in the pursuit of success. Many people focus so much on external achievements—getting the promotion, launching the business, or building the app—that they forget to take care of their internal well-being. But the truth is, without a healthy mind, none of those external accomplishments will matter in the long run. If your mind is not in the right place, your ideas will be stifled, and you'll struggle to move forward.Taking care of your mental health is not just about reducing stress or managing anxiety—it's about creating a stable foundation from which creativity and innovation can flourish. When your mind is clear, you can see possibilities that others might miss. You can think more expansively, push boundaries, and come up with ideas that seem impossible to others. But, and this is important, you should never force the process. Creativity doesn't work on demand. The best ideas come when you least expect them, often in moments of quiet reflection or when you're engaged in something unrelated. This leads us to the next point: focus. Focus is a powerful tool. When you're trying to innovate, you can't afford to be distracted by everything around you. You need to be laser-focused on your goals and your ideas. Focus helps you sift through the noise, filter out the irrelevant, and hone in on what truly matters. It allows you to make decisions with clarity and precision, and it's a key factor in bringing your vision to life.Innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship all require one essential thing: the ability to keep moving forward. When you realize your own potential, you can start thinking bigger. You can start thinking about what's possible, not just for you, but for the world. And while the journey may not always be easy, it is incredibly rewarding. The key is to stay inspired, stay focused, and never stop expanding your vision. Because when you do, you'll find that the world has endless opportunities waiting for you to discover, and you'll have the tools to create something truly remarkable.
