~RENEE'S POV~

"Excuse me? You...want me to be someone else's wife now?"

Great start to my new WWE career.

Yes, I was sitting in Triple H's office, listening to his new pitch for a character. I had been rehired a week or two ago at this point, but...the creative pitch I just got? Eh...not a big fan.

"Now, I get it, I know it sounds bad, but just hear me out, okay?" Hunter retorted, not sounding desperate, but definitely on the backfoot. I leaned back in my chair and crossed my arms under my chest, not sure how to feel about this career choice so far.

"I already played Drake's wife on-screen during all the 24/7 crap. That was already horrible, and that was back when we were actually married. That's not even going into detail about our divorce, you know?" I explained to him, going a bit more in depth about my hesitance. He winced a bit, clearly a bit turned off on the storyline as well, but he seemed to hold steady, so I was a little more specific.

"I just don't think pretending to be someone else's wife so soon after the divorce would be a good idea, that's all." I clarified, making sure to keep my tone calm and reasonable throughout. He nodded and seemed more receptive to that, but still held steady.

"Hey, I understand your hesitancy Renee, I even respect it. But we know that this'll work." He seemed to promise me, which did inspire a bit of confidence in me. I hummed, thinking about the potential of such a character. It took me a few seconds to really like the idea, but I decided to at least entertain him for a second, to see if he could convince me.

"...Alright, I'll listen. But I want to be more than a backstage comedy prop for guys to gawk at." I explained to him, admitting a primary issue I had with the previous run. He immediately shook his head with a little grin, so I got curious.

"No no no, nothing like that, I swear. You'll be more like what Zelina Vega was to Andrade: A manager and occasional tag team partner." He explained to me, which actually appealed to me a bit. It was a nice change from the last run, and one I felt was more fit to my skill set and could lead to even better things. Another concern of mine though was yet to be addressed.

"Real quick, is this a serious gimmick or a comedy one?" I asked him right out, knowing that if I was going to be a joke that it would be a dealbreaker. He chuckled a little bit, which inspired even more confidence in me.

"Trust me, you two will be serious. The occasional joke here and there, but that's about it." He explained to me with a serious but giving tone. Honestly, I was damn near sold on it now, it sounded pretty good to be honest. I didn't have much other than the bare essentials of the gimmick, but it sounded alright so far.

...just one problem though...and it had nothing to do with him...

"As good as all of this is sounding...I'm still not sure. This is more a problem with me, but...I'm concerned about whether or not I can handle this sort of gimmick after the whole Drake situation...I don't want to do this wrong, so...maybe someone else is more appropriate for it?" I explained maybe my final gripe with the gimmick to him, which...honestly, based on his reaction, was the most difficult problem for him to answer.

He took a few seconds, thinking to himself, while I just watched his process. He looked around for a few moments, like something in the room or on his desk would give him an idea, before he leaned forward with a deep breath.

"Okay...would you like to meet the guy you'd be paired with? To see if you're interested in working with him?" He asked me, also a bit concerned now after my personal issue. I winced a little, not sure if that would help in the slightest.
